Question in regards to weather up here. I live in North Mason County (near Bremerton,Wa). I have 4 Welsummer chicks - they are currently 5 weeks old.

We are going out of town when they are at 7 weeks & with the summer heating up, I'm thinking if it'd be okay to put them outside then (this would be the 2nd week in July), W/O a heat lamp????? We have a neighbor who is home all day watching them. But I'm nervous of course still.

Also, I know it gets hot here, but does it get hot enough here to kill 7-8 week old chicks? And do you know if it cools down at night, for 7-8 week old chicks, at what temp do you think is too cold & a heat lamp is needed?

I did but that is still 2 hours from me. When I go there next time if I don't already have some by then I will get a hold of them. I asked if they would mail some to me and never heard back. Maybe I will try again.

No extra heat. They are pretty much feathered except for the tops of their heads. Last night it was in the mid 40's and they were just fine. I would think that as long as they have shade and plenty of water they will be fine IF it ever does get warm this year. We are back in the clouds already this afternoon.

The brooder room is warm enough.
They go out when they want to, and if cool, they come inside.
