On another note my chickens are spoiled with cherries now.

If youa re feeding thema large quantity of cherries they may not be getting the protein they need.

protein16% divided by half feeding of cherries, protein 8%

Maybe they are eating too many cherries or other food that is diluting their protein. Just an overlooked though. Lots of scratch can lower their protein too when it dilutes their feed.

we only recently started harvesting cherries... this has been going on for weeks.

I haven't given them scratch in months.

their protein can't be that low... i have seen almost every one eat a mouse a week. they hunt for mice like crazy

Okay, I'm many, many pages behind, but...I LOVE this little piggy! I would leave it "plain" or paint it with a base coat...if it were in my budget to purchase, I would want to paint it myself a very pale pink, kinda like "real pig" skin color! How freaking adorable this gut is! I can imagine one of my tiny blueberry bushes growing out of this in a spot in my yard...

OK Come on now you folks aint being very helpful on the value of this nice market hog.

Well why dont you give us an idea on what YOUR cost was to build it. Only then would I be comfortable to put a price out there.

Maybe it's parasites from the mice?

could it be possible they are molting right now??? from the lack of light and from the stress of those roosters (some of my hens backs are sunburnt... yeah they rode the hens that hard, which is why they are gone after some hens started getting gashes)

They don't do well in heat, or dry weather, or on soil that's got too high a pH: that's why they haven't eaten Eastern Washington.

There was an abandoned farm just east of the I-5 US2 junction in Everett where you could see the very top of an old hay barn sticking up in the middle of about 80 acres of Himalaya blackberries: it was pretty scary.

I would just love to make some blackberry jam. YUM YUM

Come to my house at the end of August and pick all you want; serious invitation, bring your daughter if you want (I have sleeping places for one other small person) and a BIG cold case. You can have every berry you can pick here, and if that's not enough I think there's some at the BIL's place.

I forgot who had asked for Hoss offspring, so I am going to post here. I have a blue cockerel and 2 splash cockerels. going to be giants. they are by Hoss out of my half english girls so they are 75% english blood. let me know if anyone wants them. they are free to the folks on this thread.

Nice visit with ChickieLady, although I was full of fail at following through on refreshing drinks, sorry, so very spacey. Finally broke down and took something for the pain and the result of massive sleep deprivation sort of took hold of my brain when the stimulation of hip pain was gone. Been a long (modifier redacted) week.

Dogs and cats can get tapeworms from eating mice. I would imagine chickens could, too.
