and then -- seems like about midlife, most of our fledglings return home for awhile

divorce? unemployment? malaise? needing some time to "find themselves" ? or whatever ...

---------

such a commotion from the coop today
D.gif

they told me very specifically that they did NOT want to browse in the chicken tractor today

as soon as I opened the tractor access -- they were beelining for the coop and run

Phoebe ducked right into the coop's nest box, and soon there was another lovely pale blue egg for me

but the rest kept on BAWK BAWK BAWKing ...

went out to see Becky and Christina both snugged inside the smallest Varikennel in the run

we're talking about 10 inches wide ....

very quiet .. though earlier Christina was in there alone and bouncing it around (nest making??)

I'd put a recycle bin in the run earlier, and there's a large kittybox there too, all filled with shredded paper

right now, Phoebe, Deirdre, Anitra, and Ginger are striding around the coop, alternately talking and yelling

the roo, and I think I'll call him Roofus .. or maybe Roopert ! is wandering around dazedly, not sure of what's going on

all he knows is that the pullets on the move, are NOT interested in him ...

getting really loud out there, I better go see what's up ...

added: Christina is back out in the run, and looks like she started with a bang ...
nice khaki colored egg ... fits smoothly into one of my Large AA egg cartons ... so oval it is hard to tell which end is "pointy"

Becky is still sitting there quietly

Hey all! I am a former Seattlelite (30 yrs) who relocated to Benton City, WA--near the Tri Cities, loving it. Hubby built me an awesome large coop. I have 4 red sex links, wellsummer hen, wellsummer rooster, and a red sex link rooster, and oh, 1 Rhode Island Red and 1 New Hampshire. In a large separate run (the others are free range) I have 15 very ugly cornish meat birds with their own coop. 3 weeks old now and already walk funny. Anyway, I am looking for someone in the state here that raises and sells black copper marans. Anyone? PS, ReiMiaa are Russian orloffs cool?

Hello fellow Washingtonians

I have been peeking at this thread for a while; but it goes so fast! I may have a hard time keeping up

We live in the Kirkland area, but also have property in the Okanogan (Aenas Valley) that we hope to move to after our kids get out of school.

We just started with three pullets last September; and I've already learned about chicken math

Take a look at my page to see pics of our three hens & nine chicks (currently - soon to change again!)

And here's a great picture I somehow managed to capture of one of our nine-week old Ameracauna pullets. Don't you just love her little fuzzy face?

nice to "meet" you! dawn

PS - love the baby talk - and the Motherease cloth all-in-ones diapers are fantastic! I second the liners as well

Oh, all this baby chat is making me wish I could go pick my little 8 lb. infant up out of her bassinet after she woke up. Warm, soft and so cuddly - I want to kiss her sweet baby head again...
Instead, she's in the other room, working on an econ paper, just a few weeks away from heading back to college in Pullman. I miss her like crazy when she's gone.
Who just said they grow so quickly? It's said all the time, but the reality of the words aren't enough to describe the bittersweet sting. RFF - what a wonderful adventure you have begun, starting with the pregnancy and all of it's ups and downs. I am so happy for you. You are going to cherish and love that baby like you never believed possible!

What I hate most about parenthood is that if you do it right you end up with independant adults who see you when they want to see you and otherwise are busy living their own lives. I wasn't ready for that to happen, even if I knew that was what I was working hard for.

X2 Ours live in Hawaii, Albany OR, & 1 in tri-citys area
