My Buckeyes are 18 weeks old
(still need to sell the buckeyes)

My Easter Eggers didn't start laying till 7mos where as my Silver Lace Wyandotes & my Cookoo Marans started laying at 5mos from the same hatchery batch (same age). My RIR also started laying at 5mos (different age by a few weeks).

My EE's (hatchery - My Pet Chicken) started laying at 19 weeks. Most of my feed-store birds (teeny tiny feedstore) started laying at about 22 weeks. My Barnies from CGG started at 20 weeks, and my larger birds from breeders have not started yet, though the oldest (Lavender orps) are only 26 weeks or so old. They don't look or act ready to lay yet, and the roosters have shown no interest in them.

my EE's are about the same as yours, one started at 19 weeks, one started at 20; two more seem to have started at 21 weeks and as far as I can tell, the other two haven't started (22 weeks now) -- though the rooster is definitely "paying court" to them ... all from the same batch from Privett hatchery, but no way to tell if they are related to each other

If they are breeder Ameraucanas, I would not expect them to lay until 7-8 months of age. I don't know about the Buckeyes.

I think strains are another factor to consider here too though. Jean's lines take forever in some colors ( no offense Jean, but

when waiting for Buffs ) and my Wheatens and Blue Wheatens from peachick (I believe they are Blehm x Jean) took just 5-6 months. My blues from Cree took 6 months. My blacks from Cottage Rose took 6-7 months. My Buff from Jean I believe was 9 months before she began.

So I ran out this morning without checking on my chicks w/ cocci to run errands after posting here.

Got home from errands and found 2 more chicks gone.

I had hoped we were passed the point of losing them since today is the last day for medicating them.

One of my lavender chicks still looks bad too.

Does anyone know how soon I can retreat them? I gave them Sulmet 2 tspns per quart the first 2 days, than 1 tspn per quart the last 4 days. Don't want to overdo the meds though either.

............sigh.

My AM's are from Chickielady BBS and I believe they are cree lines... so another couple months then... sigh

My buckeyes are now posted on craigslist as well as my 2 EE roos.

I have a strange brown egg in the nest box... must be my RIR who is no longer broody but they look different from the other times.....

Weren't we supposed to be hearing about a surprise from CR today? I come home from work thinking I'd get to find out, and nothing. Hmm...
