hey everyone, (pigeon person here) im looking to buy some white racing homers in the spring to do releases with. does anyone near bellingham/ferndale ect have white racing pigeons? im planning on getting 4 roughly 5-7 day old squabs to hand raise so they'll be tame and friendly. pm me if you are interested. thanks!

my guess would be that this chick might be genetically silver and blue .. unlikely to be Ginger's, since she lays the pink eggs, and Julia said the pink egg had not yet pipped (it may not, Ginger's eggs are generally smaller than grocery-store Small eggs; may not have enough room inside for a fully developed chick) ...

in addition, Ginger is more mahogany than gold, which makes me think she isn't carrying either Columbian or blue, since Illia told me that EEs carrying Columbian, tend to be lighter in color even if apparently gold duckwing coloration ... actually I wonder if she had some RIR crossed into her lineage, since her eggs are white, underneath the 'pink' coating; not blue, though she does have a pea comb

ironically, it seems that only Becky (olive drab) and Ginger (pink) are still laying .. at least those are the only eggs collected so far the last two days ... no blue ones, no green ones; and the chickens have been cooped up for a week except for a short time the last two days, when DH supervised them outdoors -- no hidden corners where they might have secreted some

Nope, one of the aqua ones! And Quinta out of a stone colored one. Any time you're dealing with multiple color alleles you can have different colors out of the same pairing; I've bred shorthorn cattle for coming up on 45 years and am used to being able to get red, white or roan calves out of a roan/roan pairing, so it doesn't surprise me.

particularly when you are dealing with animals where their lineage or pedigrees is not known !

that's why Illia encouraged me to hatch, or find someone to hatch, a few eggs, to infer what the genetic composition of my rooster might be

we've pretty well ruled out any Dominant White ... but I have yet to see any pictures on the EE threads, of roosters with the same coloration ... a few somewhat similar

would have expected a "twin" somewhere along the line, since Privett hatchery supplies many of the Del's farm stores, as well as selling direct ...

I'm just keeping him away from teenage girls -- his hackle and saddle feathers are the very thing that is all the rage, under the terminology of "feather hair extensions"; teal metallic with gold lacing .... (I guess it's really black but it appears teal in all but very subdued lighting)
