Oh Candy, you reminded me of several times in Idaho, my big Himalayen Cat brought home 'stuff' and always gifted to my daughter, right on her pillow.
Quite a few times we'd wake up screams, the lights would come on, more screams and there the cat would have laid a live gopher, or several times a hummingbird, a few times live chipmunks (playing dead but then 1 eye would open) and the critters would run helter skelter all over the house until we caught them........after about 5-6 times, we locked the cat door forever!

Nothing like a spit covered live gopher laid on your pillow in the dark to give you a wake up call~~~~~~~~~~

Haller I am sorry for your loss, been there had it, too many times,

a wise neighbor once told me that if we have livestock and family animals that we will lose them, the only thing worse is to never have had them.

He is right.

I think cat doors are great, kinda like forest gumps box of chocalates, you never know what you are going to get.

Hallerlake, I'm so sorry for your loss. This was quite a busy day for you and I'm sorry it didn't end on the best note. It is never easy when you have to say good bye.

This feels like an inappropriate transition. But I know a few of you wanted to see the coop. The coop is set up and the girls are in it. Hook is inside wining to go back out and watch them. Bowie could care less, hence she's not in the pictures.

A length of gutter also makes an use to use and fill feeder. CR showed DH and I that trick. I use some for oyster shell.

We have a 4' length of aluminum rain gutter with a float on it (toilet type) that DH hooked to drip irrigation line to a 5 gallon bucket!!

We use it for the meat birds, as 25 meat birds would empty a 1 gallon water font 10 X a day.
Towards the end, just before butcher day, they were drinking 4-5 gallons a day!
He added hog rings to the side, and it hung right on the outside of the 2x4 wire fence..so I could dump it if it was dirty, and the birds stuck their heads through the fence to drink.
A great idea.
DH can be Einstein every so often...............I still hate the snoring though!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay I'm going to need pictures of this set up. I have to have things set up to take care of themselves, as much as I can. I forget things much to easily. That also explains the dog door thing. Big Dog doesn't like coyotes, I fairly sure still that he could do damage to one. I count a bit on the multiple 6 foot fences, between the outside of the hood and where I am located. We also get elk come right up to edge of the neighborhood. We have a very large herd that spends time in the Mt. Peak area. I have seen cougar at the fair grounds that are just a mile east of me. The only bear I have seen was at the Wildlife agents house in a trap. Bruce lives on the street just outside the neighborhood here. I know there are plenty of other types of wildlife around here.

What made me finally decide on the cam is that the cat food dish gets licked super clean every now and then. Cats do not lick bowls clean. They always leave some sort of crumbs around the dish and feeding area. I know that it isn't dogs doing this licking thing either. We have a very secure 5 ft gate across the front of the entry area. We call it our airlock. Since having the gate we haven't had a dog get out unless a person has screwed up. It's very unlikely a dog could get in, much less back out. There just isn't enough room to get a run at the gate once your on the inside. I am leaning towards raccoons. But coons could kill the cats, and I haven't seen any evidence of any battling. The last cat was nearly 16 years old when he had to leave. My oldest cat has been with us for 8 years now. So I hope that the trend will continue in the same way. I just hope I'm not over due.
My Sister lives in the Crown Hill area of Seattle and has had problems with raccoons for years. My Sis has had chickens for nearly 30 years. She and her DH have lost birds off and on over the years. She has a secure coop and run, but sometimes things just line up so, and the coon will reach through the wire and be able to grab a hen.

Oh and for your DH, hook up the vacuum so that it blows instead of sucking. Then attach the hose to a plastic bag, or maybe one of those face masks like you would use when playing in a very dirty chicken coop. Then all you have to do is turn things on and duct tape to his head. That should solve your snoring problem. If he gets perturbed, he'll go sleep in the shop maybe.

Dear Lord forgive me for having such bad ideas.....
