I don't know what type of heater you have but since it uses electricity your 100 feet extension cord may not be able carry enough juice to run the heater properly. Was the shock like static or was it like you were getting jolted by electricity? If it was NOT a shock like static electricity then your system may not grounded right. Does the extension cord and the surge protector plugs have 3 prongs? Is your surge protector a plug bar? Remember I don't know what you have but I would think you should have the heater on a 20 watt breaker with a surge protector that can handle 20 watts. Hope this helps

Wow! That was quick! When you said there wasn't enough wood for someone to come from far away I thought you might just be being modest! They filled the back of your flatbed and there is still 12 chunks left! You were being modest! I'm so glad you got help. We wouldn't have been able to make it till the weekend.

Well they worked hard and fast and got a lot done. I now have a good start on winter wood.

The outlet is the least of your problems right now unless that heater is over 1800watts / 15amps. You mention 100 foot extension cord. That cord needs to be at least #12 wire, not 14 or 16. It must be #12 or even better #10. Many times GFCI's also tend to have low tolerence to moisture.

Correct me if I am wrong but #12 braided wire can not carrier and much as #12 solid wire can.

sorry I just couldn't resist.

Oh, poop upon you man! We do have a couple but they haven't been used in years. I don't know if they are still functional. I do however have a very large one that will heat an entire 30x96 greenhouse. We can hook it up to our propane tank for the house and blast everyone off the porch! Do you think they sell 100' propane 'cords'?

I bet I could set ya up with that 100' extension.

Seriously? LOL, I was joking. Also, its actually about 200 ft.

Question though, would this 'propane cord' be temporary only? or could I use one to hook the heater up to my greenhouse? Would it be safe above ground?

Yep, cord is 12 Gage.

Can't remember the wattage, will check tomorrow morning.

My main concern is the heater itself. Reading the reviews online for it just makes me cringe. I didn't buy it, and I'm honestly wondering if who bought it truly read the reviews.

Many of them said the thermometer is several degrees off though, so that comforts me. This morning it read 32 degrees which doesn't make sense because nothing died or wilted by day, and tonight's Forecast reads 38 degrees, which still doesn't make sense though because there's frozen dew outside right now.

Illia, how warm does it need to be? There's propagation mats which run off 110 and get soil temps to 70f/ air temps to 55-60F- I think those are in the Farm Tec catalogue, and need to be used with fans to prevent mildew. My friend The Programmer did a sensor control system for a tropical greenhouse which used propane tent heaters and alarms to get people up to turn them on when the interior temps got too low- that was a double-walled hoop house, though, so they held at about 50F against 32f outside temps. The old Scottish gardener I learned my stove house tastes from used an oil stove like the Victorian he was; I think that's what my friend who has a commercial greenhouse in Vermont uses, too, I'll have to ask her.

Have you thought about greenhouse-in-greenhouse for the winter? Using another small hoop set-up or an umbrella-framed cover for just the bananas? That's what I was thinking about doing for citrus before a Series of Unfortunate Events got me out of the whole greenhouse thing.

There are few sights more beautiful than a load of properly split and stacked firewood.

Lucky are the people who can create such beauty.

I hope you just made a mistake about 20 watt. It should be 20 AMP . OK so here is a fast lesson Volts x Amps = Watts Normally amps are used to express load/current draw and watts (not always but) generally express output.
