Well, I got the chickels in their brooder. What a bunch of cutey patuttys. Those CornDels sure are a mixed lot of colors. Going to be a fun project watching them grow to see how they feather out. Was going to have a fellow farmer help me out with these but changed direction so will have some extras. Have more due on the 7th. These alone will be nice meaty birds but will not be processing weight until around 5 months. If interested send me a PM.

Anyone have some Cornish X hens and a roo they can hold back from processing? I'm looking for some live ones for this project. Don't really want to order 25.

I had to skip a bunch of pages a week or so ago...I must have missed this post of yours CL. This is great. Why borax and not salt? DH would love this. I like the idea so maybe I can sell the feathers to someone. Good information.

Sorry you found this gross. Its my fault, I was curious! lol its a good bit of information to know, if you have the stomache for it. Luckily for my two roos, my helper never showed up to help process. So they are still alive and kick'in. I'm not overly excited about that, but hey, not everything goes as planned...

Have a great day everyone! I'm off on a hay run!

Thanks for sharing the links, I found it VERY interesting. Specially since I am a newbie in birds, and always looking at ways to use everything ~ Waste Not! Like with my Meat Rabbits I am going to keep the heart & liver & smoke them, then dry it on my dehydrator & will make yummy treats for my pooches! Same thing with my cow & hog I get!

I have a string of christmas lights in the duck motel all day & night.
They get a few hours of night cause it is dark outside but other than that, sun shines in the motel.

Also have a string of easter egg lights outside duck motel.

The problem "I" see with the eve timer for lights is that (from what I know) chickens have very poor sight in the dark. If you suddenly turn out the lights will they find thier way to roost. This is why I prefer to do my timers in the am andlet the birds go to bed with the sun.

Good thought, thanks.

I went looking for solar lights at Target yesterday and all they have is Christmas ones. I don't want to put a lot of extra wires inside the chicken runs because in my experience anything that an animal can get hung up in it will: you've never lived until you've spent all of daylight on a sub-20F day trying to remove the head of a Shorthorn heifer from the frame of a sixteen-bottom breaking plough. (Hot water on the iron and a lot of soap on the heifer's neck ended up working but it was one of those moments when you're reminded why spending $250 on an ampule of semen is not, in fact, a better bet than going to a casino and putting it all on black).

I'm going to try to get to Olympia Supply today or tomorrow, since they're at least a local store with ane Ace Hardware franchise instead of a big out of state corporation. Target, and Mervyns's when Target owned them, seem to have trouble understanding that everywhere is not Minnesota. WalMart at exit 111 has once again "inadvertantly" killed all the trees between their sign and I-5. Fred Meyer's is having another one of their "reduced price" sales based on artificially inflated prices the four weeks after Labor Day. I found what I want on Amazon- a 10LED solar shed light but you know, it would be nice to buy something that makes me feel as if my neighbors are at least benefitting by getting a paycheck

OMGosh, I think I am finally all caught up.
Got my pink duckling and now I'm off to home Dee. Finish up the duck run before it rains again.

PS Muscovies are not really ducks.

They turn into something very scary at midnight.

Mostly dealing with inattentively taking both of my Metformins at once, on an empty stomach, which makes me feel as if I've been punched in the gut and then hung upside down in a bag over a charcoal fire.

I was ahead of things, got up with the alarm, got moving, but then it all went to waste.
