I slept last night with the leg immobilizer off.
I am so sick & sore from scratchy velcro!!
As this happened before, I wore the immobilizer solid for 1 month before I got to see an orthopaedic surgeon.
It took a month, he was so booked!!!
Where we lived, there was only 1 and he visited the county where we lived, several days a week, but had his main office far away.
During the month, my knee froze & would not bend.
It was immediately ordered that I get Physical Therapy and that was that.
The PTs were ruthless at bending my knee!!!!!!!!!!!
No surgery, no MRIs, no reconstruction.
This time, I am moving the knee no matter what, much more comfortable!!!
Yesterday was day 3, the peak of imflammation, and sure enough, woke up this morning & my knee is half the size it was yesterday, and the purple is getting much better too.
Yesterday A.M. I had 2 eggs hatch, one is a very silver OE, complete with feathered shanks, and one a buckeye.
The buck ended up with a weak leg, so always falling over & lay on his side kicking.
In case any of you ever have this happen:
Find a small tub/cup the chick can stand in but not lay over, piece of thick cardboard, marbles or clean small rocks & duct tape.
So you cut the cardboard to fit the circle in the bottom of the cup.
The chick should be able to stand in this cup & look over the edge, but not get out.
Pull off several 2" strips of duct tape & then rip them in length, stick them on something..then stand the chick on the cardboard, and tape each foot down, get the next strip & tape the back toe out & down, so the little booger is taped & must keep both feets equal, as if he was standing on his own.
Place him in the cup, cover to his crotch with rocks/marbles, and put him back in the brooder/incubator (remember he is just hours old)
He will pitch a fit to get out, but eventually behave.
The next day, peel the tape carefully, do not rip the little toes!
I then placed him in the brooder pen, and he stands just fine!
14 to 16 hrs in the cup makes the weak leg strong enough to compete with the strong leg, so he will not flip himself over anymore.
So he is fine now, so far.
