I am weird about meat. The only kind I eat is chicken, beef and pork and I don't like to taste it. All other meats are too strong. I prefer the spices. The meat is just the carrier.

We were at the neighbors one day for a BBQ and one of their relatives brought elk meat. Of course I didn't eat it but later he was telling the story of how they didn't get it back to camp before it was infested with maggots. I started gagging! Soooo glad I didn't eat any. Thats just wrong.

But why maggots only eat dead tissue. So I suppose you would think it really bad to use them as fishing bait and hold em in yer lip to keep em warm in winter.

Ewww, sickness! Maggots are gross, plain and simple!

I don't remember all the recipe...but my opinion....don't do anything fancy. You are a family not a 3**** restaurant. Do something yummy. Salad. French bread, nice bottle of wine. Keep it simple.

There is a recipe that I can't remember all but of it..maybe someone else can pipe in and finish it off:
Chicken breast (uncooked)
Slice of ham (optional)on top of chicken breast
slice of swiss cheese on top.
(here is what I don't remember - the sauce) cream of whatever soup and creamcheese (I think)...don't remember what I was told.
Soften butter mix with a stuffing mix.
Stuffing over chicken/chez/sauce
Cook. Yummy.

That sounds like a version of Chicken Cordon Blue.

True but the choice is simple use maggots to catch fish to eat or skipp the fishing trip part.

How very odd. I wonder if that's in the DSM-IV?

Reminds me of a story Mom always told about her senior civics class; the discussion was about labor actions and someone asked "what would happen if the farmers went on strike? Everyone would starve!" (this in a community made up of dairy, chicken, and truck farmers) The Smart Boy in class scoffed "Oh, we'd just get them at the grocery store" (his family owned the only grocery store in town, of course).

It should surprise no-one that he later ran for political office.

And the fruit wines were very yummy! Got more going now, peach and nectarine. As soon as they go into secondaries (another week maybe), I think a batch of parsnip mead and maybe some pineapple would be good.

Ah, but they are just protein, like meat!

I saw a really cool ad once, where they had a pizza topped with grasshoppers, and pasta with some kind of blue beetle.

I guess it's just what you get used to. Me, I can't eat snails. But I love lobster (nasty, ugly scavenger of the sea!)

Maggots used in medicine

So, in some places (England being one) they use a kind of maggot to clean infected wounds. They eat the rotten tissue and leave the good stuff behind. Wouldn't want any one me though, unless there was no other choice

I'm not big on fish, just shrimp, crab and lobster. Besides, you don't have to use maggots or put them in your MOUTH!

Turkey Is Done!

I know, I'm a bit early. But, I don't remember the last time I cooked turkey (another dislike) but sister requested it, so I'm practicing. It came out pretty good actually. I used a Jacques Pepin, Julia Child methos, where you bone the thighs and stuff them. It all cooked very evenly and brown.

Now what do I do with it?
