One thing about paper feed sacks and coop bedding: I've got lots of sheet compost makings for places I'm battling creeping buttercup (spits and makes sign to avert the evil eye)- put down dolomite, sacks/cardboard/et'c, then cover with six inches of whatever I'm composting. I'm thinking of double-covering the worst of the Ranunculus repens zones and possibly using ag lime for one of the pH correctors, and then just putting containers around for color while things work.

OH: my son was turning on the water so I could wash feed pans the day before Thanksgiving, and said he saw something run under the lawnmower- not a rodent, and as soon as he put his fingers and thumbs together to describe the shape I knew I was right, that I had been hearing a Pacific Toad, hooray, yay, and so on. GREAT slug controller, even better than the garter snakes because they hibernate when it's below 40F. I'd forgotten to include that in things I was grateful for.

I am sooooo jealous!

I'm chuffed: I haven't had a resident one for years, so long that I'd forgotten the significance of sucked-dry husks of slugs all over the yard. I had one when we first moved here, but it vanished long ago.

We have alot here!
And peep frogs.
DH saw a huge toad hopping across the driveway during last week's typhoon....I wanted to catch it & examine 9I LOVE TOADS & FROGS!!!!)
But he said no way is he going toad chasing in a typhoon with horizontal rain & 80 mph gusts.................sheeesh, I would have, why else would you even be out there??????
I told him he was a squirrel, he said I was a squirrel for loving frogs & toads...sheeeesh....y'all think I love chickens, you should see me with my frog farm!!!

I wonder what would happen if i put toad or frog eggs in the detention pond next spring?

Kruckeberg Arboretum has a PNW Chorus Frog restoration project, so you may be able to get eggs from them- I don't know anyone who's doing Pacific Toad breeding projects, although if anyone is, it would be Woodland Park Zoological society, so they're all in your neighborhood, right?

I've got Chorus Frogs next door, but none breeding since my little lily tank froze to the bottom two years ago.

Sale cages are bought from the show, and you put your birds in them.
Read the show flyer.

I looked at it. I guess it tells me that people are sanctioned (if that's the word) to bring birds to sell, but it doesn't really tell me how common it is. Is there a large variety available? Just curious.

Thanks Shannon,
but I have some tummy problems so I have been nixed off of the Nsaids - Ibuprofen and aspirin. Nothing acidic (why no coffee or tea). No alcohol. I will know more on Tuesday. But at this time it is not a GI bleed (which is what I was afraid of and made me go to doctor early - just saw the walk in doc).

Thank you though

Sorry I thought I read someone was having an issue but this group moves so fast I can't keep track, hubby already doesn't like me on the computer as much as I am which is alot. 3yrs ago I had major foot problem (platar f something or other), dr told me to take 3 ibprophen 3 times a day. I got tired of it & quit after 6months of it, atleast steadily taking it that way. The pain finally went away when I had a sinus infection & took antibiotics. It was a 2yrs of foot pain. Just this year I have to limit my intake of ibprophen as it plugs me up. I finally got my stomach issues better anyway, at one point I was taking 2 Zantac & 2 24hr meds, dr told me to do this. Finally down to just 1 24hr meds & 1 Zantac, & try not to over stuff myself (easier said then done with the holidays). I have another major sinus infection that's been with me for since Aug, its giving me major headaches. I'm really thinking about calling an ENT dr to see what they can do cause antibiotics aren't doing much. I need to get this done soon as my husband might be getting a new job so that would mean 3mo of no insurance.

..........sometimes if you eat something that is "bad" for your system, your system will "lock up" in as such= an asthsmatic reaction.
I asked my gastros why I had an asthsma attack when I felt my gut full..and he explanined this to me::
The lungs exchange air, and if there is "bad" air in the gut, it is sent through the blood system, and exhaled, the bad air out, the good air in.... so if you feel swollen, and gassey, and maybe even pressure under the rib cage, that is the bad gases that will try to be expelled, through the blood, as is alot of other gases, expelled in the lungs, and if you are sensitive to it, (you may have an asthsma attack right there, in your own home) asthma inhalers may be necessary to open up your airways, remember, the good comes in & the bad goes out....and that includes methane & other gases that can accumuate in the gut
I always wondered why I had asthsma attacks in the middle of the night, in my clean bedroom.....what????????????
Clean sheets, cleaned every corner & floor of dust...it was gases inside the gut, exhaled into the lungs, that sent the lungs into a crimped reaction...
This is one very great reason why trianed dogs can 'smell' illnesses in us humans.....

Sorry to hear you are still suffering that long with a sinus infection. Definently see an ENT if your primary care doc hasn't been able to get it resolved yet. I've had chronic sinus issues in the past and have occasionally had to resort to prednisone in order to get rid of really bad ones. It helps bring down the swelling so things can drain properly.

LOL...I'm not selling anything. Besides, I'm not a WFF member. But yes, I plan to be there.

Not to add: an Island in the middle of overbreeding humanity..................the frog is taking refuge in the only place left!
Maybe you can get a Fed program going on the Farm!! Protect the Toad!!!!!!!!!

I told the doc how much ibuprofen I have taken (over time) and she told me that could be a major cause of my problems AND it could cause me kidney problems in the future. I have taken way too much ibuprofen in my life. No more for me. Stinks. I am hoping it is just something that I can take an antibiotic for and then I can go back to having my coffee.

miss my coffee.

Oh I wish you were closer to me! We have toddy!

I hope your DH is looking at this toddy brewing system. Get this one rather than the one that's a bit cheaper - because this one has a total of four filters (the other has two.)
http://www.amazon.com/Toddy-Coffee-...9?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1322442674&sr=1-9

I have used this for a couple years now. My stomach is so much better for it. Cold brewed - and very strong caffeine. I use it as shots in place of espresso - my DH uses 1 part toddy to 2 parts hot water for his coffee.

It says to use one pound of coffee per 10 cups of water - you don't really need to use that much. I use about 3/4 of a pound and about 12 to 14 cups of water (eyeballed). It stores in the fridge for up to a week (at least) but it will not last that long

One thing you'll find is most stores don't sell a fulll pound of coffee anymore - I get my full-pound, locally roasted Columbian coffee at Vista Clara Coffee.

Ask me any questions you want - I'm pretty passionate about my toddy

And if you get to my side of the mountains - I'll send some with you!
