I just made some fudge - not peanut butter though.

Hmm... still thinking before I hit the grocery store...

I'm going to grab some cheese at TJ's, and possibly a little fruit? Having no stove whatsoever is bothersome.

Hi New Girl
welcome-byc.gif

This thread goes fast, so it might be a few posts before you get a response to your questions. Plus, many of us are going to the Show in Chehalis this weekend, so there won't be many folks around. But, you can bet there are folks in your area who can help you

So, where is everyone meeting - I must have missed that bit.

Since there are some gluten free folk, I decided on the quiche minus crust (Frittata!) with 2 kinds of sausage (rabbit and pork/chipotle, homemade) bacon, tomato broccoli, asparagus, spinach, mushroom, 4 kinds of cheese, onion and all held together with yummy eggs and cream (some are white eggs - girls not laying but 4 a week).

But I bet nobody will be able to tell which bites are the white eggs and which are the green bites!

i forgot to get veggies at the store~~~if no one else has then let me know, I will get some before lunch.. I got cuties (those numilicious lil oranges) juices, cups and a couple other little nibbles.

Hello Washingtonians .. been fun reading alot of your posts . not all , 4yrs of posts would kill me lol

this is my first go round with my own chickens and thought you all might enjoy a story hehehe ... I live near Cle Elum

Got 5 buff orppington chicks may 10th . the last 5 the store had so even though I asked for 5 girls the runt told me to stuff it and went Rooster lol
The smallest of the remaining girls started laying sept 21 , small eggs but still good. The other 3 started laying about 2 weeks later. All was fine I got 3-4 eggs a day and even with allmost a foot of snow on the ground. wierd deal though the small initial layer kept laying small eggs and some awefully elongated, the other 3 hens also picked on her alot and started pulling feathers, and I found they dont care if you yell at them to stop fighting at the feed station. they have about 32ft of floor space in the hen house and a half covered run that is 6ft x 15ft mix of shavings and straw.
Well yesterday I went out to collect eggs and the littlest layer was in one of the egg boxes and motionless. I proceded to extract her to find one last of her small eggs and it appears as happens in the animal kingdom she couldnt take the strain of laying. rest of the flock doesnt even seem to notice she isnt there . they are still laying and the roo is still trying to keep his girls in check lol.
I do plan on trying my hand at incubating a couple of the larger eggs this spring and increase my flock a small bit. {pics later if I remember to take any lol}
Anyone looking for cold hardy beautifull chicks that lay good sized tan eggs I suggest the Orrpingtons just try to not get any people have breed for show seems they like smaller egg size layers

I do have a Q to toss out to the peeps here though. I would like to find someone with non/x Norwegian Jearhorn chickens and get some straight run or eggs (after I learn how to incubate >.< ) . I love how they look like pheasant chickens and want to try Free ranging them I think they would have the best chances against the hawks and falcons out here.

stay warm

I haven't gone to the store yet. I'll get the veggies.

I know we'll have cider there, (yum!) but should I pick up some bottled water as well? I don't remember seeing that on our list.

I think I may have to get me some WHITE EGG LAYERS just so I can have eggs in the winter! (I'll need to dye them so DH won't know!)

hatch out one of my pink eggs from Ginger, she is the ONLY one of the EEs from Privett, currently laying; but all of them laid prolifically, almost every day, from 19 or 20 weeks, until the sun started setting much earlier

I haven't checked in the last couple of days, but I have been REALLY pleased with these EEs from Privett ... they appeared to be molting so maybe the egg production will kick back in one of these days

I rather suspect Ginger has some production red or such, in her lineage, since she missed the blue egg gene ... but has kept on laying eggs when the other five slowed down and stopped

will be interesting to see what her offspring comes out to be like, and what color eggs she might lay, since Julia managed to hatch out one of her eggs (best guess = pullet) even though they are on the small size to contain a full term chick

hi just stopping in.

2 random questions

1. do any of you have experience with sewing rabbit fur? i found an awesome rabbit fur coat for $50 it has 2 tears in it and i hate the zipper.... someone also put in a different lining.... i am planning to tweak this... i did buy a new zipper but now i am thinking i should look into multiple clasps........ so anyone who knows how to use rabbit fur on their sewing machine please PM me.

2. as a thought from messing with fur i was wondering if it is possible to preserve chicken skin with the feathers.... how is it done? yes i had the thought to modify a coat to have chicken feathers on it.... and i am not just thinking about the saddle and hackel... i am thinking all but the wings....... think of how pretty our birds are with the many patterns and colors.... non of that has ever been replicated in fashion... (maybe because its a chicken.... but still)

so yeah..... i have been sewing and studying and am currently behind on a lab report on botrytis decay in apples.....
