Ditto. The mites you can see after they have just fed, and will appear reddish/brown from their meal.

Another thing you can look for to treat immediately, is the Adam's Flea and Tick spray in a BLUE bottle for dogs. They also have a white bottle for use on upholstery/carpets, which you do NOT want. You can spray the dog spray directly on the birds around the vent (not ON the vent) and under their wings and the base of the neck. This is what we use at fair when birds come in with bugs. They get sprayed, and rechecked later. If any more live bugs are found, they go home. But this kills the bugs on the spot.

Lice are usually found by seeing their egg sacs at the base of the feathers. I agree they are probably mites, but Eprinex treats both.

I must say I have used the Eprinex and before used the Ivomectin and I am a Eprinex fan now!!!!!!!
I doesd all my flocks about 2 mon ago, and there is not 1 bug on any bird anywhere.
I just looked at all of them today..and they look great!
Using Ivomectin before, and still would have occasional mites...so Eprinex solves all the problems & is so easy to deal with when you have so many birds.
LOVE IT!!!

Thank you CGG. That sounds fairly simple. But what about the coop? Do I have to disinfect it and change all the shavings?

No, you don't have to disinfect, just dust with Poultry Dust or Seven. The mites thrive on their hosts, but dusting the coop is probably a good idea too.

Lice & mites lay their eggs on the butt fluff.the fluffy part of the bird between their legs.
If you look, and see your birds nibbling & itching & they have really "dirty" "muddy looking fluff on their back sides & between their legs, it is probably mite & louse eggs.

I'm glad to hear this. We also used Ivermectin in the past, and then we lost Meg's cochin to mites 2 weeks ago. We finally got the Eprinex in and dosed EVERY single bird again last weekend, even though we gave them all Ivermectin in early August. We will repeat next weekend too.

I have to download & print the Icelandic history on a paper so as to attach it to their cage tomorrow..I am soooooooooo tired.

CCG~~~~~~~~~~ Are ya gonna show up tomorrow???
love to see you, it has been a long time!!!
