I am going to be wearing my green BYC shirt tomorrow. I will be the lady that isn't old enough to be moving so slow. But I am still planning to have fun tomorrow any way.

Do you know anything about hatching eggs after applying wormer? I f I can't eat the eggs, can I hatch them or would the wormer kill the embryos?

I'm still trying to figure out how to tan the darned things - haven't gotten to the sewing bit. Waiting for the alum to arrive before tackling the skins I have

2. as a thought from messing with fur i was wondering if it is possible to preserve chicken skin with the feathers.... how is it done? yes i had the thought to modify a coat to have chicken feathers on it.... and i am not just thinking about the saddle and hackel... i am thinking all but the wings....... think of how pretty our birds are with the many patterns and colors.... non of that has ever been replicated in fashion... (maybe because its a chicken.... but still)

Well, if you can tan other skins you "should" be able to tan chicken skins. There are a lot of south American tribes that use chicken feathers, perhaps they have a way to tan the skins and use them.

so yeah..... i have been sewing and studying and am currently behind on a lab report on botrytis decay in apples.....

Aha, Noble Rot! Makes wonderful desert wines, but didn't know apples could get it too?

I think that right before Chickielady hurt her knee she had a large page of info on tanning, she has done a lot of it, furs and chicken skins. I have done a skinned male phesant that my DB got and skinned for me, once tanned I kept it for nearly 10 yrs looked just as good as ever. She is the athourity though.

I made a gluten free pumpkin cake. It didn't rise as much as a regular cake. Is that normal?

I believe that it is normal that a cake won't raise as much if it is gluten free. I believe that the gluten is one of the major reason that baked foods raise.

I am going to need to go to bed earlier than normal tonight. I think that last night wore me out.

OK I am hitting the sack~~~~~~~

One thing I learned babysitting cockerels this week is that I will never hatch chicks in the winter. Brooders get stinky very quickly, and it's kind of cold to have a window open.

Hi Everyone! I'm in Vancouver, just over the bridge from Portland. I have 7 ten week old chicks, Buff Orps, RIR, Americauna, and Barred Rocks. We currently have one awesome coop under construction on our 1/4 acre lot. Hoping to add a few more hens next year. Also have a Blue front Amazon parrot, and a small flock of Coturnix quail. Oh, and our newly adopted Golden Retriever. I'm trying to become the farmgirl I was too embarrassed to be when I was a teenager, growing up on the farm in Spokane after my parents yanked me out of SoCal.

Hi FowlFriends! We just moved from Battle Ground this summer! We were about a mile from BG lake. LOVED it there, but decided it was time to buy, and couldn't afford anything with decent yard. Nice to know there's a BYC friend close-by!

Welcome to the Washington thread. DH and I used to live in the Fern Prairie area just north of Camas. We loved the area. I wished we had been able to stay down that way. Feel free to join in on the chat here. It does move vary fast. A lot of us will be at the chicken show in Chehalis this weekend. If you can feel free to join us.
