Bummer, been listening to George Strait. Looovvve him. Sigh, thinking why hes the only person in this 'Big Old Round World' who gets it. Feeling misplaced at the moment.

If that's the long-time vendor I'm thinking of...is he going to be at Monroe, do you think? I need to save my dimes (the quarters are spoken for) to be able to buy several items in his stock. I'll probably have to sell off a few of my books (I've got a bunch of mediaeval history ones I'm very over) to make room, too.

It's possible I need to get independantly wealthy between now and then.

There were two vendors there selling books even though it looked like one long vendor table. They are both bug supporters of the hobby that have been in it for ages.

There were some books there that were just wonderful! Much better than some of the modern books on waterfowl, for certain.

Edited to say.... Big supporters. Not bug supporters- didn't check anything that didn't have feathers for lice!

There was a replica copy of L.Frank Baum's 1886 treatise on Hamburgs, including the illustrations, but it was $80 and I ran out of four different expensive prescriptions this pay period and am on a tight, tight leash financially. And an illustrated guide to bantam breeds. I didn't even dare to get closer than a glance, I'm not good at resisting books once I've held them in my hands.

In general I'm trying to warm myself with a feeling of extreme virtue about my wonderful control of impulse purchases, but between the books and the OEGB hens, I'm mostly feeling all deprived-like.

I noticed a few strangers helping themselves, but there was so much food, I didn't think it a problem.

I don't know you, so you might think of me as a stranger, but I'm legit. I brought the HUGE box of silverware. When people asked em about the food, I told them to go ask Robin or Rob. Hope most were polite enough to ask.

I met that gentleman--was his first show, and that little boy was ADORABLE.. I asked him his favorite chickens and he listed off about 6 different kinds. My kinda kid

I bought my permethrin concentrate for less than $8 at a feed store.

I'll have to try my Del's again- it wasn't there the last time I was there in person (the whole shelf was empty) and sending my DH (who works pretty much next door) for something new, different, and unusual is not my idea of a good time. It took three phone calls for him to get a bale of hay.

I can sooooo relate. If mine doesn't GET IT he never will. He's got a city brain, not wired for the country. Even basic country/farm stuff eludes him.

Check horse.com . They sell an off brand concentrate super cheap. I use it on horses, chickens, dogs and plants.

Which reminds me of the time I left him to feed the horses one evening while I took a break with friends. The next morning I went out to feed only to find the wood divider between stalls a chewed up mess. Come to find out DH forgot to feed that night. He said, "no big deal, they would live til morning" Another time I went out in the AM and found several bags of shavings chewed thru and eaten. The horses had leaned over the fence as far as their hungry necks could let them and chose to either eat shavings or starve! He makes me want to SCREAM! Thats why I never want to spend the night at a chicken show or anywhere else for that matter. I will take care of my own animals THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Thanks, I'll try that. I've got a brand-new sprayer that I bought last spring with blackberry killer and than got overwhelmed with building chicken accomodations, so all I need is spray. I think I figured out where the leg mites came from: fledgeling starlings invading the yard after Zathras was killed. I really miss having a garden cat!

Of course if I had, today my cousin would have been down six or seven or eight pullets: they'd come under the gate into my east yard and then into the south/west yard through one piece of livestock panel that my kids set upside down* (at the end of a long day) and I had all stapled down and wired in before I noticed. I'll need to put some random eight-foot piece of something there some day soon, because the chickens had, with unerring accuracy, decided to dig in the one patch of bulbs and perennials I'd managed to reclaim in a bed which the creeping buttercup had taken over.

* livestock panel has 8" X 8" mesh at the top gradually diminishing to 8" wide by 2/3" tall at the bottom. It's allegedly to keep pigs from digging but mostly it keeps chickens in and stray dogs out, or in this case keeps chickens out. When it's not upside down.

It took him exactly *once* to learn that if the cattle don't have water it constitutes a first-priority emergency, but then he'd at least visited his Uncle's ranch all his life.

Here, here! I wholeheartedly second that!

Also, let me say that I don't think I met Ultasol, Stumpfarmer, or Ari and that I'm sorry I didn't. Probably a few others as well and those goes for you too. It was nice to meet those of you that I did and for those that I didn't recognize, I hope you'll forgive me. My memory just ain't all that good with folks. Shucks, there's folks I've attended church with for a long time and I still forget some of their names and don't know most of their last names at all.

All in all, I was very pleased with the way the show turned out.

God Bless,
