We are going to sit for a bit- just got home from the Farmer's Market and a few other places, walking on concrete and wishing for magical shock-absorbing shoes (and yes I've got high-test orthotics, in my therapy shoes).

no problem, as DH said, the next time he needs to go to Oly/Lacey, he will stop by, no sense making a special trip out here

Yeah, it may not happen- the other person we need to see isn't getting back to us. If I can't get a Sunbird's gift card I'll just get a Visa one. I'm feeling the loss of sleep between 4:45am and sometime after 6am- I know I fell back to sleep because I remember dreaming!

It used to be traditional to put up the tree on Christmas Eve and leave it up until Epiphany. You're not late at all.

I remember when I was kid we put up the tree on Christmas Eve but only because the tree lots put them on sale and Dad could get one for cheap!

Oh that is soooooooo true!!!!!!
And did you have Christmas a day late as well, when everything was on sale?
I can remember being a newly single Mother with 2 kids, ages 2 & 4, and we went Easter shopping on Monday & got everything 50% off & had the Easter bunny come on Wednesday!!!!!!!!!

My babies never knew the difference in days, but they had 2X as much stuff!!!!!!

LOL, No, but not a bad idea. If I shopped the sales I'd put it away for the next year, except the candy of course. Except if I was 2 I don't know! When I was little it would have been hard to fool us as it was a BIG deal to go to church on Easter Sunday to celebrate the Resurrection. If we went to church on Wednesday we would have wondered where everyone was. But thats just us. Every family is different.

As far as Christmas, No, we didn't do it a day late. Even to this day I get so excited I wouldn't dream of postponing it. Love watching those kids! Maybe a day early!!!!!!

We did our gifts early, DH & I................I got what I asked for..kind of.I asked for a ring or a Griddler...........so he got me a griddler.
Cuisinart 5x1 Griddler.....awesome!!!!!!!!!!!
And so I let him open his gifts......I got him a nice set of spotters scope& binocs.and a night vision monocular.........all 3 were 2X the cost of the griddler

But he is out commandoing even as I write....even with the unit off, and the light not on, the night vision looks like daylight out there.....so nice to 'see' what is in the bushes instead of just 'seeing' eyes....................
Once the unit is ON..it lights up the entire place like daylight!

Well I guess I must have made the right choices on who went away yesterday. We had been getting 2-4 eggs a day so last week I took 12 to the sale. We still got 2-4 all week. So this week I took another 8. I kept the 2 crows because I know they are young and 2 others that were kind of favorites and I thought may be laying. Well today we still got 2 eggs.

The crows aren't laying but since they are only about a year they are safe. FOR A BIT ! ! ! So nowin 3 weeks I will start pulling eggs and see if I can get the Bator to light just in case my broody fails me.

During this Solstice, I am still getting 18 eggs a day......mostly from the pullets at POL..the older hens that just went through, or are just going through moult, are laying on & off.
I have hens 3-4 years old that went through moult and lay jumbo eggs.
I will not force them to lay..this is the darkest time of year.
They need time to refledge, it takes alot of their vitamins & minerals to replenish feathers & keep themselves warm during this time of year.
I am patient & confident the old girls will once again lay jumbos for me, when they can.
The heritage breeds that I have will not be forced to lay during winter.
I think you are making a BIG mistake expecting any hen to lay over Solstice!
Lights or not!
A hen properly fed will lay well into her 6-7 or on, years.

Cold also effects fertility on the part of the cockeral.............larger Cock birds with large (S/C) combs can be moreso affected than R/C or pea comb cocks.
Check fertility well before you set.
The cold effects a cock bird through his comb, right into his brain to stop sperm production.
