Wow, sorry !
Is there some way to net over & give you some peace of mind & chicken security ?
Birds of prey are terrified of being ensnarled in nets & wire...if at all possible they avoid it.
Quite a few times we have seen folks run 50# monofilament back & forth over a fish pond or bird run to scare off birds.
We called it the "no fly zone" and it quite clear so did not make the yard look so weird.
Hope you find a way to safety!
Yesterday we saw 2 adult baldies & 2 juveniles circling....so it is a matter of time here as long as I let my birds free range.
The big eagles usually buzz the place & move on...I am sure they see the nets.
Only birds with no nets is my turkeys, and there is no eagle that can pick one of them up.
At first sight of any over head bird, ALL the roosters sound the alarm and ALL the birds hide.
Hope you figure out a way!!

Salina: so sorry about your serama.

Oh,btw.... Quincy is right now crowing outside and letting everyone know how gorgeous he is. He is doing great.

That was my thought. Anything that can't get over that is either a tiny dog or too fat to catch any chickens.

I didn't see the fence, It doesn't say how high in the article but if it were me that happened to I think I would do more than just 'fix the fence'. I would put up Fort Knox! Plus, I wouldn't trust electric. I can see using it to put around as a perimeter around a solid fence but wouldn't trust electric alone. I've had horses blow through electric if spooked enough and deer go through electric to get to the garden. If it's at night and they can't see it they can be through it before they even realize it's on. My dogs will try to dash under it. Sometimes they get shocked but if fast enough it doesn't even stop them.

What I saw looked like about 3' tall that white elec netting. it was around a very large area where they had a 4 horse trailer with pop door cut in the back for a coop.

Now I am no designer and hate working with sticks (wood) but here is an idea ya may wanna think about. See the cupboard above the fridge? Now most people have that is it really very useful? Pretty high for most to reach. BUT think about use the same style but make it a drawer and put it UNDER the fridge. We did this in the neighbors house and it works well. Just an idea.

cool idea CR....I like that one. I always thought that the cupboard over the fridge was useless.

Hey, I just looked at that. Looks like lots of changes for the better. Things that were frustrating to me before will be changed! Looking forward to it. With unlimited storage for all I'm wondering if the benefits for GFM will be different or worth it.

Ha, looks like I got sensored! Nonsense and Oysters? You guys know what I meant right? You know that other kind of mushroom that starts with S and H. Silly, the 'bad word' was part of a real word with a different meaning which makes it NOT a bad word. Oh well, cest la vie on BYC.

Oh THAT is pretty funny! No CGG, I don't think the actual name of the mushroom was a bad word! Did you spell it with two "i"s after the sh?

I just went to the KOMO website and watched the video. I know a lot of people use that fencing to pasture chickens but I would definitely make sure the coops were closed for the night but looks like they are planning on starting to do that. Sad. But it happens a lot even though we think we've done everything we needed. I know I've lived and learned in dog and coyote attacks. I'm planning on finishing our fence across the front of the property this summer. It will keep the neighbor dogs from coming in. Their mutt just had puppies bred by their other mutt and the 2 adults and all the puppies paid me a visit the other morning. I happened to be down there and there were no chickens out and got them shooed back to their own property but it's really irritating. If they don't get rid of the puppies I'm going to have a mature dog pack on my hands!

No, it was just one i. Did I spell it wrong? I wonder if it would matter if I used 2? OK, lets see if it does!

Shiitake

I have finally caught up!!!!!!

Went out to prune Lyda Rose and all the blooms are opening...........flora & fauna all think it is March.
Feels like March.windy & rainy & relatively warm, although the talking heads say this is normal........
My Turkey Toms have been caught mounting...the hens seem restless and more territorial than usual..staking out a nesting area ?????????

If they start laying eggs now I guess I better stick them in the incubator in case the weather turns back into winter !!

Thank You, still steamed... I just found her little stash of eggs in the hay. the live trap is still set and there is nothing in it. I will take that out today, I did let the rest back out into the outdoor run, they have been sleeping on the floor of the coop, wary of things from above I guess. they are very watchful at the moment.
Today its war on the rats, I went in the coop last night and got ran over by one. time to bait every tunnel and hole I find. I want to get a rat zapper to. locked the cat in there once and he just sat and cried all night..the big baby.
Quincy needs some pics posted soon. would love to see how he progress's
