Well, I'm English too and what he said is a load of Tosh! Wonder where he got his medical degree, and where has was in the class, bottom probably.

Oh really, I dont know but it made since to me than..

yeah, tosh is not the word for it though.
Decades ago Celiac Sprue was referred to as "the Irish Disease" since the potato famine unearthed so many sick Irish & many actually dies from eating wheat.
See, if you do not know the story, there was a potato disease struck in Ireland & parts of Scotland , too, I believe.
The English in great gerorosity trucked in tons of wheat the feed the starving Irish.
Many died right away...others continued ill for weeks until the discovery of exactly what the disease was all about.
So for many many years of my life, and way before computers, I had all this issues...skin disorders & strept throat (several times a year for months at a time & the doc would give me massive antibiotic treatments to kill off the strep he said I was a "carrier"

)
Once computers came out, I searched & searched & self diagnosed and was laughed at by docs.
They refused to test me.
One said "Celiac Disease? Do you know how rare that is ?" he laughed !!!
I read all about what happens when a celiac eats wheat...I had every symptom case book.
I was a poster child.
Finally got a gastro to test me.
So it all worked out.
And since my research we have come to find out there are alot more celiac sufferers than once thought.
It is NOT just a Celtic Disease !
Italians, Scandiavians and even Africans are turning up with this disease.
Something like, I think...maybe as many as 1 in 10 ???

Well, Tuesday is the big change day !!!
I will try to stay off line for a few days (starting Monday) to let the Admins work out all the kinks in the new system, and be back by Thursday or Friday.
In the meantime...it is lock down day for 12 Bucks & 9 Javas & 2 OEs I had to stick in there for fun.
Then I stuck 9 more OEs in last week...so keep the bator going....
Pip day is the 12th.so I may have a bunch of new fluffy butts to show you all.
If I can figure out how to upload new pics.
I have gleaned out 4 pages of pictures already in an attempt to make the BYC load lighter.
Hope to see you all in a few days !!

One more funny thing...
happened this morning when I pulled out a pair of white socks to put on, unrolled the pair & across the top of each foot the socks have printed:

NO NONESENSE

so I said "ok"

She has/had an auto immune blood disease a name of which I cannot remember, in which the spleen attacks & destroys both old & new red cells,
Normally the spleen is supposed to do it's job of destroying just the tired old red cells while the marrow makes new strong red cells.
In her case, her spleen went nuts & ate all red cells, so it was removed.
So now her immune system is alot weaker.
Both daughters have the same disorder.
One of the twins had her "attack" while visiting over the summer with relations in Florida (I think) and just collapsed.
Luckily they were on it quickly with red blood cell transfusions or she would have died.

The chemo was after the splenectomy I believe.

Great efforts to knock her immunal system down & get it to stop attacking herself.
Now, any bug that comes along hits her pretty hard.
My immunal system is still whole & over active....any little sinus drainage & I can eexpect massive throat soreness due to attacking T cells (the white cells that destroy disease, and in our cases can destroy the good stuff too, like my intestinal lining if the T cells 'see' wheat proteins they attack & destroy the entire length of digestive lining) T has UC as well...so she has a delicate balance going on, and stress does not help one bit either !!

the over achieving immune system... seem to be a lot of us who have them these days. makes one wonder what the hec is going on. I got a new drug to go with my Humira today, called methotrexate, has many uses and seriously bad side effects lol. I am taking it anyway...on monday in case it makes me sick, then I can call doc and cry

Mom was on that for years for her RA.

I took methotrexate for several years. If they get the dosage right, it's not too bad. Must be careful how much you drink though (alcohol) because it can damage the liver.

Are you taking it in one dose, or in several? I took mine over a 3 day period. Was fine. Hope you are too.

Mom never had any trouble. They did check her liver function regularly.
