Do you have someone who is interested in slightly imperfect birds? I have a few I would try locally before placing on Eggbid
3 mo. old white smooth Polish- probably male- crooked toe or I'd never part with him- $20 or possibly free to a hen only 4H home- a real pet.
5 mo. old white frizzle Polish- male- not quite perfectly white- $20
2 year old white frizzle Polish hen- not perfectly white (this is a problem I'm dealing with- they're sort of cream-colored and I'm trying to breed it out) Gorgeous crest-$40- paid $200 for her and worth every penny but now I'm keeping her whitest chicks to move on with. Virtually blind with her huge crest down so I keep it taped up. Fabulous lawn ornament.
Her 8 week old probably female chick- white frizzle- also too buffy or creamy- $40- refundable if a male
3 month old araucana male- fabulous tufts, tailless, but, alas, has some red in him- $75, may have a female to go with him.
I don't know if it's actually OK to post sale birds here- but don't want to bother figuring out how to post pics if I don't have to. I can e-mail them to someone interested.

I just witnessed an auction for a new type of chicken. it was an egg aution. it ended at almost $900 for 12 eggs..... Silver Laced Brahma's are the breed the person created.... and he has set this auction up 4 times now with the prices getting this high.... Proof that i am not crazy. but it gives me motivation to create something new and cool to make $800 for a dozen eggs....

its on this site. Ills was watching it too....

and i thought her purchase of those polish eggs was crazy (no offense but i had to prove to my family i didn't fall off the bandwagon yet...)

so now i have all these chicks of many different breeds... and 4 roosters. 2 milli and 1 (11pound) buff brahma and a new Black Jersy Giant. let the cross breeding begin! may the most creative crosses remain and i will then sell cool cross breeds! survival of the coolest and fittest!

So since I'm a first time ducky mama I have a question-----

Do they start losing their fluffy down when they begin getting feathers?

I noticed in their bath tonight that when they are wet they have areas on their backs by their wings that look kinda bare. When they dry off they got all fluffy again but you can kind of see some thinning. Normal? '

My blacks are a little older than my chocolates so it is a bit thinner on the blacks but it is beginning on the chocos too! I looked really close when I toweled them off and didn't see any creepy crawlies. '

Ok so all our goats are the most frendlyist kids and adults around. We had raise them and they LOVE eveyone. I have a friend disbud ours and also the vet that way I know it gets done right. I hate hearing them cry.

So the horn thing for 4-H all goats have to be disbuded, but the hair goats dont. They are trying to get it so the meat goats dont also.
Its hard on Dairy goats to have horns becasue when you milk them you put them in a sant. and some times if they have horns they dont fit.
People who really pack say its best becasue they help cool the goat. Some people say it doesnt, but if they get left it can help them fend off other things that would like to eat them.

Chicken Rustler
Id love to know how you disbud, oh and pyg. need to be disbuded now also in 4-H and open shows.

Sorry I get tuff when it comes to goats I love them all and some people dont give them a fair shake..
We dont have any horns on our place and I do say if you have a few that do than they all should be becasue they can play with the horns and its not fair to the others who dont have them..

The only place for Wheaten Marans and Amera. is at Crees, but right now they dont have any Amera in. They are very good people.
In Sept or so I should have some eggs for the Marans but not sure if Im going to start hatching again that time of the year..

I only have one more hatch and its BHB eggs hope I get a good hatch.

Have a good night everyone.
and WELCOME to all the new people its a great group here.

Having been through this a couple of times, my sense is that they get sort of baldy looking before the feathers start coming in. Mine are looking a bit bare as well, and I had just been thinking the last couple of days that now is when it starts getting interesting and we get to see their 'color' starting to come in. (though for you, you'll still have chocolate and black

) I'll try to get picks of mine tomorrow - but I've been less enthusiastic about photography with this crazy weather (and we've got quite the wind on Whidbey tonight).

I've seen his pics. They're gorgeous!

yes, they certainly are. I would love to have some, but definitely can't afford the price that they're going for.

Correct. Pardon my grammar, but "ain't no chicken worth $900" That's 3 car payments or 6 van payments, or almost a whole credit card balance, or almost a rent payment, or a pony even!
