Hi everyone. I am sad today. My rooster is missing out of my pen...just plain gone. I *think* a coyote came today and harrassed my chickens enough for him to fly over the fencing, but I can't be totally sure of anything--except he is gone. I am really upset.

So....I am now on the hunt for an older cockerel (over 10 weeks) or a rooster that I can add back to my flock. It needs to be a heavy dual purpose rooster. I am willing to pay for one or take one for free if you are looking to get one off your hands. Thanks alot!

So its been a long day, my son is home now after having his gallbladder taken out. You know it just hurts to see your kids in pain. He ate at the hospital and oh my gosh we couldnt get him to stop until the pain came back.

. I hope this helps him.

Just checking in with everyone!

My BO went broody and I decided to let her sit it out. I only have the one nest, so the other two RIR hens jump in there with her to lay their eggs. She keeps them nice and warm until I come grab them at night when I put her on her roost. She is a full 3 weeks into this behaviour, and I'm hoping her natural broodiness is going to go away shortly... without little peeps. I didn't want to have to cage this gal.

Other than that, the other two are consistently giving up 5-6 light brown eggs a week. They stopped eating my weeds while free ranging in the yard, and just dig for bugs now. So I am splitting time in the pen and free range, and feeding them my weeds that I have to pick by hand

Killed two rats last week. Looks like another one moved in too. Going to take advantage of this weather and really tighten up security around the old egg factory! A good weekend for cleaning up, if you ask me

Hope everyone is well! Sorry to have vanished. I'm still here, no major pests other than them rats, and nothing out of the ordinary to report. Perhaps I'll update my page this next week to show off my run and coop. Been meaning to do that!

Ok so I am going to throw out an odd question

Does anyone know any local tanners? We are getting one of our sheep butchered saturday

and my BF wants to get the hide tanned. I know alot of you on here have more than just chickens, so, I apologize for offending anyone but I am just googled out
