So adorable!!! And I'm so sorry you lost one this morning - it always hurts.

Okay....I am going to try and load a photo. These are the Serama babies...I got the eggs from CloverLeaf. They are from Jen's roo Voltron. They are 1 month old TODAY. I really think they got some potential...The little cockerel...just showed his true colore (his comb all of a sudden appeared) just within the last week. He is stark white with the black on his back. The white pullet has a "yellow" head, but white body and the black saddle. And then there is the little brown....can anyone tell me what to call this brown? They all three stand much nicer when they aren't scared out of their little head...so they have squished themselves down and don't have tails up as good as they normally do. Just moved them into a bigger box today.

Okay, I think photos are on here....but I cannot post at the bottom of the page.....they post here under the words...so new photos are on top of the ones I have already done...hmmmm. anyway...next photo.

Yay!! the black and white ones look a whole lot like their mama did when she was little! Here's how she turned out:

OK Guys time to pick your brains.... Now that I am gonna have 5 Rhode Island Red Hens, instead of just the one, I was thinking how am I gonna tell them all apart?.... Does anyone have any ideas I have seen the metal leg clamps with numbers you can order online but I was hoping for an easier way to tell them apart ( that way my kiddos would have an easier time). I have heard of a few people using different color zip ties. Whats your thoughts on this? Any Ideas?

Thanks Bunches

Love the white with black! Very nice!!! I have some almost the same age, hatched on Christmas day. I think we have 5 of those. Then we had the 7 hatch the over the last few days. Can't wait to see yours grow out!

So, MGSU sawed up some of the alders that came down - BEAUTIFUL colour interiors; rich orange. So he dried some, and tried them in the smoker. I was just standing there like a dummy smelling the smoke.

Make some good smoked salmon I think.

Yeah, alder is a classic smoker wood. It also makes a rose-red dye when treated with urine for a mordant.

I wish everybody hadn't decided to burn their soaking wet downed branches; coming down onto 5 from 101 was like a trip into the bad old days before burn bans. I find myself hoping for rain and wind tonight, which I'd otherwise find superfluous to my needs.

Is the place you get washers at Mud Bay and Kaiser?
