Yes, we noticed that right away & had to get this pic because of it. *whispers* He did it in utero, too. ;)

Did I say good morning yet? Nope? Oops?

Had to go feed first thing, couldn't get to the Layena yesterday afternoon because it was still in a galvanized can on the hand-truck in the front dooryardand it rained hard from noon on. I'm trying to figure a better place that I can move feed to that is also out of the rain and it keeps coming down to "get a handtruck with bigger wheels, replace the broken bracket on the NE corner gutter, lay pavers and hardware cloth there and build a little bump-out shed" which is all well and good given time, money, and a longer ladder but at the moment not so much.

Also I keep forgetting to share my very important discovery about storm lighting: if your cheapo solar lights have batteries which are inconveniently discharged, you can replace the rechargable ones with plain vanilla AAs and they light up forever; seriously, there's one which we keep forgetting to take down and swap out batteries and put outside and it's still lit after ten days; it does go out when the living room ceiling light is on (high-output day-balanced halides) but it's on every morning when I get up.

One more biggish project to finish (reinforcing Bacchus's pen so it sags less in the rain) and then all I have to do is wash sheets and pillowcases.

I wanted to add, besides wanting to kiss his toes & make him giggle (as babies do) I also want to know who made the lovely blanket & cap...it is a gorgeous color, and so well made..Kudos to the crocheter~~~~~

Thank you all for your kind words. We're beginning to love the interactions with him.
CL- A very, very nice patient gave that to me for Baby- she knit it herself. It is wonderful, such a blessing to have generous patients to work with.

Although none of my blue egg layers are producing, I'm getting eggs steadily from the light sussex, the Faverolles girls, and my BCM. Dan and I cannot consume this bounty so I thought I'd just offer some to friends (for a small feed donation), and holy cow! What a response I got! By yesterday I'd supplied 4 friends with eggs and have "orders" for a few more dozen this week or as soon as my girls can give them up. I'm not interested in having regular egg customers, but I've only before just given them to family members. I just thought maybe if I can buy a bag of food from time to time with a few extra $, why not?

So it's nice that the girls are helping to support themselves and I'm able to share their beautiful eggs with friends. This is a wonderfully unexpected bonus for a city girl's hobby.

I'm taking that egg money to Del's today to pick up supplies.

On another topic - CALIFORNIA SUITE has gotten a couple of very nice reviews in local papers already and audiences are really enjoying the show. Alec Clayton of the Tacoma News Tribune will be reviewing sometime next weekend. My "co-star", the brilliant Elliot Weiner who plays my husband has been making cracks that I'm getting all the big laughs and the audience empathizes more with my character than his. Well yeah, since your character is trying to hide a hooker in our hotel room, I guess so!
Here is our first review - someone you might know has gotten a little mention...

by the way, if anyone is interested in seeing more or less where we will be, I found a couple of YouTube videos, showing people driving down from, or up to, Pukalani, and also a YouTube of the house right next door (it's for sale), and you can see the edge of our house and property in that

I could post the links, or simply tell you how to find them ...

A few years ago all Alex would listen to was Iz.

That's so funny, DS loved it but DD would not touch it !
Ha ha you just can't win them all !
Is Iz a Hawaiian group also ?

here's a link to the Wikipedia article on "Iz", who is/was a person, rather than a group, though he did often have backup musicians

I think his surname translates as something like "child without sorrows"; my Hawaiian dictionary has gone walkabout so I can't confirm that

Speaking of reviews, I think I forgot to mention that my baby sister Megan, has had a book published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt called "Never Eighteen", and it was finally released last week. It is a Young Adult novel, but it is a story that should be read by all ages, (13 and up) as it has a very special message that all can relate to.
The subject matter is somewhat sensitive but overall the message is a positive one.

"Austin Parker is on a journey to bring truth, beauty, and meaning to his life. Austin Parker is never going to see his eighteenth birthday. At the rate he’s going, he probably won’t even see the end of the year. The doctors say his chances of surviving are slim to none even with treatment, so he’s decided it’s time to let go. But before he goes, Austin wants to mend the broken fences in his life. So with the help of his best friend, Kaylee, Austin visits every person in his life who touched him in a special way. He journeys to places he’s loved and those he’s never seen. And what starts as a way to say goodbye turns into a personal journey that brings love, acceptance, and meaning to Austin’s life."

Megan has set the story to take place in the Northwest. There are many local references - Mt. Rainier, Seattle, the coast, etc. I would suggest this as worthwhile reading for not only those with teens or young adults, but everyone , no matter their age, has enjoyed the book. Megan was inspired to begin writing after my nieces started school, but this book came about after she closed the daycare in her home to have her MIL who had throat cancer, spend her last days in their home. Megan sat with her every day, talking, reading and singing to her. After Judy passed, Megan began this story.

After 3 launch parties last week, (one sponsored by Tacoma Public Libraries), Megan has been invited by several middle schools and high schools to come speak to classes about her book and the process of writing. Tacoma School of the Arts has even chosen her book to be the text chosen to study for spring semester so of course she will be making an appearance there.

The book is available at local bookstores, libraries and on Amazon in either paperback or for download on Kindle. If any of you with middle or high schoolers are interested in having Megan come to your school, those arrangements can be made - she is willing to travel. If after reading, your child would like to contact Megan and talk to her about the book, she would welcome that contact either by email or on Facebook.
