The Spanaway Squawkers- world's laziest 4H club- had their first meeting today. Kids need to work on table training their birds and studying their Standard of Perfection. All kids should know their Breed/Class/Variety, comb types, and be able to name a breed of duck and goose as well as describe a disease and parasite of chickens before our next meeting in June.

They are dairy goats so we milk them. I have a chance to send some overseas but you know I dont think I can do that.
I am trying to push myself to breed a few of the girls to a meat goat so that way I wont keep them. But than again I dont know if I could sell them and not now how they put them down.. I know Im really really bad...

They told us all the rooms in the new place are going to be private. But you know Ive told all my kids and friends and the people I work with let me DIE before you send me there.. One of my friends said she can see me hanging on the door trying not to go in there.
You know its sad becasue there are some good people there. But yes I HATE the place, and I dont use hate often..

So I went to go outside and do yard work but my DH stoped me and said NO, I told him I just cant live for my back anymore and he wouldnt leave me till I said ok.
My son is doing much better today..

Its not bad at all! Totally understandable! I am a hunter and fisher and every now and then I still have a hard time putting a beautiful creature down even though I know I am not doing it out of greed or being wasteful . I was just curious because I know that some people do raise them for meat. I highly doubt I could.......

Lots of guilt today. I hatched 4 call ducks a few weeks ago, gave the 2 biggest with longest bills to a 4Her, and kept the 2 best. After a few weeks, I moved the mama araucana and 2 ducklings out to a tractor. All went well, then the smallest duckling was found dead for no reason. Yesterday was so lovely and warm, I let Mom and her now 6 week old duckling out to play in the sun and grass. I watched them having fun in the pasture. Then I looked back and the duckling was gone without a trace. I don't know what predator got it. I felt so sorry for the poor devoted mama, calling for her baby. Last night she roosted with the other chickens and seemed OK, but today I found her, dead without a mark on her, in the barn. Say what you want, I think she died of a broken heart.

i am soooo sorry!!! they may be"animals" but so are we and if we can fell the loss of one we love then
i believe they do as well! Again I am so sorry for your loss

I'm so sorry cmsdvm, Sounds like you've had a rough time lately.

ChickenSal,

You can intro them at anytime. But you need to be vigilant that the hens don't hurt or kill the chicks. I wait till they're close to the same size.
