Hey guys!

I haven't been around for like a year! I can't believe its been that long. Time flies when you get really really busy. Anyhow, I have a problem! My favorite pet rooster has suddenly started getting picked on by his other rooster buddy to the point where its becoming dangerous. So, I've got the mean one listed on Craigslist along with two other RIR Roosters that are in great health. Ziggy (mr. Meanie) is 1.5 years old, super huge, and an Australorp. He's just about as beautiful as they come, but unfortunately he's got ten hens between him and my favorite roo and they are starting to get picked on way too much simply I think because there aren't enough of the ladies to go around. So, we're looking to rehome the Roos. I also have two RIR's that have a similar problem. I can't get more hens because I'm already getting a dozen eggs a day out of the 14 hens I already have... so we've opted to keep our favorite roo (the one that rides around on my husbands shoulder like a hawk - great survival tool huh? Befriend the humans!) and send the other's packing.

They are great free rangers, tame around people, very respectful... just well Roosters.

So if anyone who lives near Winlock would like a gianormous (I do mean huge!) Australorp Rooster let me know. His name is Ziggy and he does have his own youtube video I can show you. The two RIR's are the same age and a little more aggressive... but they need homes equally bad. We're asking $10 a piece, but if someone isn't going to eat them and wants to keep them for their chickens, we'd waive the fee.

Today I absolutely MUST go see the vet and discuss putting my dog down.
I have procrastinated long enough, almost a full year, and it is apparent she can barely eat now with the big cancer in her jaw, and running down the row of teeth in the roof of her mouth.
She is on alot of tramadol for pain, and some hours she seems like she is doing great, almost 'frolicky' and then most of the time lately she seems totally 'lost' with dementia no doubt.
The vet told me 2 weeks ago (when I discovered a tiny bump in her mouth) that this will run fast, and once into her lymphatic system, it will spread through her lungs equally fast.
This is the kind of cancer they tell you that you have 3 weeks to live, it is incredibly fast !!!!!!!!!
Yesterday while giving her pills, that it has taken over her entire upper jaw, lumpy cauliflower-like growths popping up from beside her teeth.
I am so depressed, but have to carry on.
SO !
Looking for a good pup that can handle the weather here, not too big, and must be a breed that will love and protect the birds here.
I have been avoiding looking for another dog, looking back it is almost as if I do not look for another dog that my Samantha will be OK.

I am a newbie from Battle Ground in Southwest WA. We have our first 4 chicks, we will probably be adding more every year! We moved to the country from the city, and we LOVE it! So far we are me, husband, 2 boys (8 and 5) cat, fish, and the 4 chickies, sure to be adding more critters soon!

Lone duckling looking for adoptive siblings??? After a difficult hatch, I ended up with two Magpie mix ducklings about a week ago. Last night, it appears, a rat tried to steal one of the babies away, and I found it dead just outside their "safe" pen. There had been a huge ruckus in the middle of the night and I went out with a flashlight, but didn't see anything (guess I was expecting something larger than a rat) and I assumed the ducklings were safely tucked away under mom in their house. It had to have been something smallish to squeeze under the inner fencing and there does appear to be a slight dip under the fence where something could have come in and dragged the duckling out.

Anyway, there is one duckling left and I hesitate to leave it outside tonight, and hate to raise it inside as a lone duckling. Is there anyone in the Western WA area with ~ week old ducklings who would be interested in taking in an orphan? This is a picture just hatched, and I can get a more current one if anyone is interested. I stole the surviving duckling away from 'Mom' for a bit and Mom duck seemed happy to be back with the other ducks, but he/she looked so lonely and distressed, I decided to return him to her for the daylight hours.
