Oh, did she mean baby chicks?

It makes me feel so sad when I read all her posts. The bad luck does not seem to have an end. When it rains, it pours. I hope spring brings good luck and new chickens in equal or better odds.

YES! and the big issue is, she is in Pullman at college while all this happens !!! Frustration to get someone to care for your flocks while you are away !

So the one bullied duckie drake and another drake went to a new home this evening. Dad said it went well and the lady was happy. Now I just have 2 females and 3 males. the one drawback with cayuga ducks is that after they turned shiny i couldn't tell who was 'the favorite' apart from everyone else. they all look the same

i am going to take my craigslist ad down. i think for the time being 3 drakes is not as bad as 5 was....

did anyone see my post earlier about there being a nice cabinet incubator for sale on the Moses Lake craigslist farm page? its a GQF Sportsman for half the price.

I still have my fingers crossed to hear back by friday for a returning job interview. In the interview on Monday it sounded like they really wanted me and my resume and cover letter stuck out to them. -sigh- I know there are a few others interested in the job but from what i could tell in the interview they were actually fieldman wanting to switch careers, so potentially i am competing against 45-59 year old men. they did say could hire a part time person while waiting for me to finish college in May.... them saying that was a horrible lead on to my hopes. I do not have much experience in job interviews to really get an accurate read on how it went (2 job interviews and they were 15 minutes... not the hour this one was). It was with a person in the room and another person on skype at the same time. it was weird and confused me as to who to focus on but i figured out the guy in the laptop is a higher up. research later indicated he is the director of the north america branch.

http://www.ncsiamericas.com/
is the company i am trying to get a job in. they only have 9 "offices" in north america, wenatchee doesn't have dedicated building, yet... they are new to this market. they are international and based in australia.
I am more nervous about this job than I am about an exam... because this is such a great opportunity for an interesting career in an industry that is just starting. its so new there are no real "experts"
just holding out on hope.

KMoran - I can't find the info about what time the show is taking place...but I will be coming with my nearly-2 year old (not quite a baby anymore) and maybe my 7 year old. He goes to a class in the morning though.

LOL well I ment baby chicks but kiddos work too. If I go I will have my 8 yr old, 5 year old and my 2 1/2 year old... LOL

Where is there a Winco near hear? The closest one I know of is up in Arlington?

I believe you thinking of same one as I.
It is the second exit past Marysville. The one right after the casino. Not sure if they call that Arlington or not?

We decided not to renew our Costco card as the prices seem to keep creeping up.
I do miss going there but we started checking prices two months before our renew time for Costco card and decided it wasn't really worth it anymore.

I really like Winco. Amount of money we save makes up for time and gas.
Plus I can buy so many different products out of their bins.

BTW. It is cheaper to buy bird seed in the containers you self serve above the bins then the 25 pound bags.

Try Cash and Carry, no card/membership and bulk supplies. I get almost all my bulk buying there now instead of costco...
Different stores carry different things based on what is asked for locally so if there is something you use a lot just ask them they might get it for you to purchase.

Just read through some of these posts, but thought I would say hi! I'm down in Vancouver and starting over in chicken adventures this spring with a batch of Cochins and Salmon Faverolles. Nice to meet you all!

Welcome to BYC!

I thought I had got some pretty eggsciting news today. I got invited to be one of the few vendors at a 29 years running blue grass fest and a month later to a county fair I was pretty eggscited since I REALLY like the location. Then I saw the fine print 8'x8' $100. I need 10'x20'to even bother trying to set up. And if that ain't good enough They require that I have $1,000,000.00 liability ins that specifically names that county and it's employees. BTW this would be Stevenson in July and August. There is not much nicer place to be than the gorge on the Big Creek in the summer. I spent my childhood there and would move back in a heart beat.

Hi all ..! As usual we are busy busy busy around the farm here. Getting seedlings started in the greenhouses (the CSA waits for no one), we have 5 goats that are bred for April/May kids so working on getting all the pastures set and re-fenced, working on the house (repairs as always), and the yard, the 30x50 herb garden, etc. Phew. Of course all the girls are out and about helping (in their own way of helping, which is usually being underfoot).

Speaking of the girls, we have a dozen of the bestest girls around, "BUT", it isn't enough. We are looking for more layers. Possibly up to a dozen more. Now the question is, what breed/variety should we acquire. We cannot keep eggs, they are gone as soon as we box up a dozen, I had 4 1/2 doz this morning, and now I have none. People don't even wait for me to put the sign out anymore, not that I am complaining.

So my friends .. what say you ? Currently we have 5 - ee's, 4 buffs and 3 french marans. All 9 months now.
