Emergency - please help - Puyallup area

Some dogs got into our coop. Out of 7 chickens, 1 is missing, 1 is dead, and 2 are seriously injured. We need someone to take the remaining 3, as they are not safe here, and we don't have a means of humanely putting the other two down. This could not have happened at a worse time, we have no money for vets or even buying more chicken wire. We have secured the coop as best we can, but don't feel that we can safely keep the birds here anymore, until we are able to fortify the enclosure better. If you have room for a few more in your flock, we would be grateful if you could give our girls a home. They were excellent layers, obviously might not be laying normally for a little while after this. Please email me at [email protected] if you are able to help. Thank you.

Anybody see the article about 50,000 Abandoned chickens found in Modesto, Calif. the hens had not been fed in two weeks, they could only save 2,000. the owner of the egg farm said they wer going out of the egg business and had over looked these chickens. the farm produced 12 to 15 million eggs a year.

about 1/3rd of them were dead when authorities arrived, worst fears were the rest would be euthanized, but, things have been worked around and some thousands of them are to be shipped out to other farms and saved.

With the economy going down the drain, this will unfortunately be happening more and more often I am fearing. When I was a kid and worked on a dairy farm in Pennsylvania when I was in high school, we milked 81 head x2 a day. I read about a dairy farm in Texas, that milks 10,000 ... I cannot imagine that.

So, yesterday, I put a cockerel in the sous-vide, set the temp for 165 f, and let it go until this morning. I made an omelet out of a goose egg, stuffed with said chicken, tomatoes, fresh basil and cheese. It was INCREDIBLE!

That boy was tender, and just fell off the bones. I had a bit of a snack this afternoon, just a bit of meat with a sprinkling of salt and pepper. I LOVE chicken!

I think these make a nice lunch meat, breakfast meat, anytime food. Toss in with salad, make into soup, put on pasta - I didn't think chicken could get this good.

Oh, and this afternoon, we bottled Nectarine wine, and filtered the Peach and Parsnip wines. Tomorrow, after bottling them, we'll rack the Persimmon and Mead wines and then I can start making the Pineapple!

Life is good!

How on earth can you overlook 50,000 chickens!

BUT its only a little one bedroom and I don't see the DW suitcases packed so I guess shes NOT going with her

So with the DD gone !! that brings up a little problem. "What to do with her bedroom???" See, her bedroom was an old 10 ft X 23ft lean-to on the back of the garage. My best friend and I turned it into a real cute little bedroom. The DW wants to keep it as a spare bedroom.

I WANT to turn it into a CHICKEN coop

Hey Chickielady fill up your bator with BUCKEYES ... I could have buckeyes everywhere... A buck buck here, a buck buck there, here a buck there a buck, everywhere a buck buck.... Old MacRonB had a farm e i e i o..................

Now being the understanding and reasonable guy that I am.... I told the DW I would put a bed in the corner of the coop

she said NO WAY

I mean come on, Its NOT like I was going to put it right under the roost

the only one that would use the spare bed would be her twin sis and her hubby

Why are women so unreasonable ???

Unless you plan on sleeping with the chickens, I am going to have to side with your wife on this one. I still don't think that the room should remain a bedroom. After my kids moved out I quickly made sure that the room didn't look like they could come back easily. My DD's room became an office, and DS's room became my sewing room. I should have re-painted DS's room before I move in all the stuff. But I wasn't completely sure that the kid wouldn't try coming back. It's been just over 6 years since DS left, and I still don't miss having him underfoot. It's a darn good thing that he still loves his bride, and that she doesn't want to live with me either.

So; as much as I think you need more chickens. I am sure that you have more than enough room in that gorgeous barn of yours, at least a flock of Buckeyes from CL. You might need to make the run bigger though. lol
