i put in some lime to help with the smell and if the hens poo then that would help. that and some of the mower clippings (eventhough most were dried) i put the lime in to help with decomposition. i dont really want the chance of mold around the eggs. it will keep it all dry.

that is my logic.

Chickielady The little box is adorable. I have one like it that is a barn and has a hen inside of it. I just might have to find the phone number of the store and have them mail me one of those boxes. Did yours come with anything inside?

OK I called the store, and they had one left. They are checking to see how much it would cost to ship it to me. I will keep you updated on what happens next.

What breed do youthink this one might be? I know the other two are Barred Rock, and Buff Orpington. But I have no clue what the white one is.

It looks like a EE. We had a hen years back that looked a lot like the white one. Her name was Eagle. She was one of my favorites.

PS they are very cute.

So: okay I called the store in Raymond and they had one of the little chicken boxes left. To ship the box it is going to cost about 12.95 plus a little bit for handling. That was driving me a little crazy

so I bought 2 other boxes so that I can divide the shipping cost between three boxes instead of just one.

That one picture in Chickielady's post cost me just over 35.00 dollars. I am such a sucker.

The white one looks like a speckled sussex, but I am by no means an expert.

It will be interesting to see what someone else thinks

OH!!! I didnt even think of that. The guy I bought them from had a Speckled Sussex roo running around! I thought she was pretty and unique looking, and I just HAD to have her. At least I hope its a her. lol

Someone under "what breed / gender" said she looks like a delaware cockeral.
