Hi! Another newbie like me. I don't really know who to talk to here, so I'll talk to you, LOL! Where's Omak? I'm in Covington, near Kent. We got our first ever chicks March 31, they're 5 weeks old now and super fun! I have 3 Buff Orpington, 2 Easter Eggers, 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Black Australorps, and 2 Welsummer. I think we have one roo but not sure yet, could even be 2 in there. What kind of coop are you building?WOW! I haev been slacking! So I joined about a month ago. I am in Omak, WA.. We have 4 chicks, 2 Ameracaunas, and 2 Rhode Island Reds. They are 4 weeks old! I am building their outside home this weekend! YAY!!! The currently reside in my sewing room in a covered set up for them. Things I have learned so far.. Set the water up where they can get to it but can not scratch their bedding into it. LOL! And lil chicks are sure eat a LOT! WOW! My kids are 6 adn 8 and have been doing a great job of taking care of the chicks! They might even show them at the fair if I can figure out how all of that works.. LOL!

That's how I feel about hubby's dog. He is a bird dog but that's no reason for him to kill my chickens. Hubby was going to shoot the dog because that's how he grew up, but I got him talked into finding the dog a home or else getting a dog run for him. He is a loving dog and fun to be around. For now he is on a 20 foot chain by his dog house. What is wierd is my dog (a heeler) hasn't messed with the chickens except when they got loose then she just kept them rounded up for me.Shes a really good dog also we are gonna keepem separated and shes gonna spend alot of time on the leash with me and the chickens she a very passive dog I think we can work this out but I'll never trust her alone again
Howdy!!!Howdy neighbor!
Hmm I am not sure.. I am trying to picture it. Ha Ha I am a hands on kind of person when it comes to figureing something out. So I am probably no help. LOL! I took my dogs kennel for in the house( the big plastic kind, she is a mastiff) and put in its two pieces and linked them end to end and put chicken wire over the top for their brooder. And I have their lamp. It is working but I am ready for them to be outside and out of my house. LOL! But all in good time. This weather has been so strange. I do not want frozen chick cicles either..We still need to build our run but we have 2 large dog kennels made of chain link that we'll use. I'm still not sure how to bury and secure the hardware cloth around the bottom of it though, because there's a door of chain link that opens too...
The girls are already in their coop though since it has electricity and a brooder lamp inside.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I aint saying.I love how you call him Einstein!!! I laugh everytime I read it, especially because I know you are being sarcastic! In a nice way, right?![]()
The plan is nice, but the weather is NOT cooaperating !I plan to turn the light off in the coop when my girls are 10 weeks. They should all be fully feathered by then (even my runt hopefully) and the night averages will hover around 50 degrees in another 5 weeks from now. Should be about perfect! Wish I didn't have to wait so long, but I really don't want to worry about them at night!
