How much is too much in regards to treats? My girls are almost outside all day now, unless it is raining and then they have to stay in the coop. I say that so you know they eat grass and bugs all day long. Today is rainy so I brought them some celery and greens earlier, and now I have another bowl of chopped celery, cucumber, sunflower seeds, and flaxseed. Should I just do one bowl a day? They're medium size cereal bowls full to the brim. Just don't want them to suffer being cooped up, but I also want them to eat enough real feed to promote good healthy growth. When they can go outside, we just do occasional mealworms and they eat grass all day.

Here is what I was told...someone else will have to pipe in if I'm way off!

As many greens as they want (grass, dandilions, etc.)
90% chicken feed
10% treats (sunflower seeds, scratch, flax seeds, apples, pasta, leftovers, etc.)

too much energy will encourage pecking, especially when confined.

I wait til the afternoon to give treats so that I know that they are eating feed when they are hungry in the morning. And I only do it once a day. I don't know how much is too much but I just go on how much feed is being consumed. If they are not eating much of it I know I gave too many treats! :)

On another note....my Silkies are hatching!!! I got word from Tamara that the first one pipped this morning. SadieSue, it was a white one! Yay! I am waiting to hear if there are anymore.
