I saw the moon today!

( in detail I mean, lol ) We've had a huge and decently powerful telescope for years now but I've never had the fully powered batteries, right time of month, and right time of day and weather without a moon filter to be able to track down and view the moon without seriously damaging my eyes. That's right, for those of you who don't go star-gazing - The moon hurts.

Without a moon filtering lens that subtracts 25% of the actual light the moon is giving off, looking through the lens at a full or quarter or even crescent moon is very dangerous, as it is exceedingly bright, not to mention tampering with the focus to get it right down to the gritty gorgeous details of craters, valleys, and all. Well, I finally got to do it - Tonight just before it got too bright and late, I was able to track down the moon with my laser sight (new batteries) and view just the very edge of it so it didn't hurt too much, and man! Is it amazing to see the moon, in person, in such enormous blown-up detail. It is incredible. Plus, I was out a bit early, so I could actually differ the dark side of the moon with the sky. It was eerie, really. Seeing a giant gray globe moving quite quickly through space.

Anyway, just had to share with excitement. The lunar eclipse for us will be this June 5th, hopefully we'll have a nice clear sky that night, and the moon will be darkened out enough, I'll be very excited to see a full detail surface of the moon, soaked in rich scarlet to deep blood red coloration.

I heard this today and it made me laugh!

"Why does a chicken coop have only two doors?"

Because if it had four doors, it would be a sedan!

Flash from the front, she wil be 7 weeks on sunday..

The hackles look pointed but in the next picture you will see them clearer

I lifted them up midway up her neck. She has a tricky pattern..

Her wings are held down a bit by my daughter, but there are no shiney feathers, and no color... Sooo VF please please tell me this really is a girl.. lol

Very strange weather - I was in downtown Seattle and there was super heavy rain and even thunder and lightning! Hard to see to drive; and when I came back to the Eastside it looked as if we'd had an all-night windstorm with tree limbs down everywhere and even power outages!
I had left the chicks outside since it was such a nice day, luckily they were smart enough to go for cover as I found them all nice and dry in their coop when I got home. I taught them well

I really do hope you get a better fence and don't have to deal with idiotic and irresponsible neighbors.

oh my gosh - i missed this! how crazy can it get before they do something? so sorry Dana!
Have you tried contacting the landlord? Once they're notified they may have to share some responsiblity in the future? IDK, but it would be worth trying. I do understand not wanting to have an on going fight with a neigbor.
We have only lived in our home for a year now. When we first moved in we thought sll of our neighbors were crazy because every couple of days a new one would show up and just walk right onto the property and walk around as they pleased. I don't know how many old drunk guys I had to tell to leave and they all said the same thing...That it was ok the owner said they could be here, I said um no I didn't. They are all really nice people but they all drink a lot. We now want to move out to Arlington or farther north. The one we have a problem with is a seemingly nice lady that had two dogs. She has a fully fenced yard and her dogs can not jump the fence, she just lets them out when ever they want out because it makes them happy to roam the neighborhood. Well when we first moved in some one had been telling me about her and that she has animal control called on her all the time. One of her dogs showed up one day (a while ago) and I fallowed it home(didn't know her or dogs yet) I told her she had to keep her dog off my property cause I have kids there. Well she still lets the dogs out and now the chickens are a big attraction to the one dog. I cought her chasing chickens one day and told the lady. A few days later it was back so I sent one of my boys (Great Dane ) after it. I went to her house and told her that next time her dog is on my property chasing my chickens that I would send my other dog after her's, (English Mastiff) Barricade does not like other dogs at all, or anything messing with the chickens. I told her if that happend her dog would most likely not be coming home after Barricade gets it. I don't like having neighbors!!!

I think I remember you saying that you have illigal chickens? Well that is going to make things hard (hope this never happens) but what if next time they are out you are carrying one of your hens? I hope there is some way to resolve this for you soon. To bad there is no way to make sure every one trains there dogs, I am tired of the dogs getting put to sleep because of ignorant lazy owners.

I hope you are ok from being bit, and also hope it does not happen again.

I'll have to ask hubby what filters our telescope has. We haven't had that think out in a few years. It's been so long I forgot we had one! If we can safely look through ours, I think the kids would enjoy it.

Girl. She looks a lot like my girl, Foxglove.

She's gorgeous! What breed is she? Is she a Light Brahma? My Light Brahma is getting black feathers coming in like that.

Edited to add: Except mine has feathers all over her legs and feet.
