OK Mr. Ron you need to get yer magnifying glasses and REread the fine print disclaimer ! I also did not know that blue eggs are supposed to be higher in cholesterol. See DW has had problems with high cholesterol and she has has been eating lots of Am eggs. But as last tests levels are good!

Speaking of Chorlesterol do you know how this great concern came about?
Spring of 1966 LBJ was installing price and wage control, trying to contain the fall of the enconomy and stiffle rising inflation. When the Egg Producers Org refused due to the rising cost of fuel and feed he became incensed. When Agri Sect Orville Freeman told him that there wasn't anything that could be done LBJ had his Surgeon Gen issue an alert as to the hazard of cholesterol in eggs even though there was no real reason for such an alert. This was the 1st TV appearence by a Surgeon Gen and was a payback to the Egg Prod refusial to hold a set price line.
As it has turned out it might have helped but maybe not. I thought it was an interesting note from my younger years.

Eggs are eggs if they are chicken. My one girlfriend said oh oh the blue one's are so much better for you. I said really she said yes and went on about it. Thank I had to tell her the truth. Sad look on her face made me laugh

Roosters can co-exits just fine but there might be a little fighting to establish dominance. having them grow up together helps reduce the fighting.
Line breeding is father to daughters or mother to son.... sister to brothers is not good.
Line breeding involves breeding a strain back to itself to promote and perpetuate the good qualities that the line possesses and not bring in unknowns which may have a bad affect on the line. In my opinion it is something that should be undertaken only with a knowledge and research of what will be required and the risks involved.
Thank you Rainwolf!

a egg is a egg no matter what the breed/color/etc.....
a egg is based off of what the bird eats.... if they eat fish the eggs will smell fishy, if they eat a lot of free range stuff the eggs will normally have a darker yolk.... If you feed them the junk the large chicken mass production farms feed them you will get a egg that taste just like the store bought tasteless eggs.

I feed my birds a mix of scraps, brewers grain, feed, and I have some wood/bricks/tarps that I move once a week so they can bug hunt.

Yard looks like crap but my birdies love when I move the wood pile from here to there...
Neighbors must think I'm nuts moving the wood/bricks/tarps from here to there back to here every week :D

I have some chicks that may well look alot like that, very "silver"
They are "Party Chookies" we call them, and are from a Russian Orloff Cock over BBS Ameraucana hens............alot are "chocolate" with what looks like a partridge-blue body...so far.
Very pretty.
We were tired of BLACK chickens !!

Exciting to see the various colorations of EE this pairing is making!

Those are VERY pretty CL! Good idea - the biggest reason I got the cuckoo OE's from you is because I already had too many black chickens in my little flock. When I'm counting at night I like to recognize who is who with a quick glance. Nice combo - I'm looking forward to seeing how and what color eggs they lay.

Does anyone have a Brinsea Octagon 20 incubator??? If so I would LOVE to chat with you and ask you a few questions. I a trying to decide which one to get and I am not sure if I should get the Octagon 20 ECO, Octagon 20 Advanced or the Octagon Advanced EX. I know I want one with automatic egg turner because I am very forgetful LOL but I am not quite sure what all the other gadgets are for... Thanks for your help

Yes, I do and I know a few others do too. I have the Octagon 20 Advanced. It does have the egg turner but does not have the humidity pump. In retrospect, I WISH I had gone ahead and sprung for the Advanced EX because I've heard so many good things about it. But the directions on the model I have are pretty darn easy and somewhat foolproof. I do check the temp every morning and add water to the reservoir every other day during incubation. At lockdown I adjust the airflow vent, fill both reservoirs with water and wait for my babies to hatch!

I think it's worked pretty well for me. I've had successful hatches all three times I've used it. I've also loaned it to a couple of others who have also had great success with it.

This last time was hatching Silkies and Seramas. They hatched on Mother's Day. Two of my Seramas did not hatch - 6 went into lock down and only 4 hatched. The two that did not hatch never even pipped.

However, I have been told that Seramas can be very fragile and I should be pleased with my 4, because they can be a challenge to hatch.

The Silkies and Seramas are all 2 weeks old today and thriving, active little buggers. LOVE them. I wish they were all girls, but I'll have to wait and see!

Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions about my incubator you'd like to ask.
