OK for anybody looking to build an incubator or install a fan in a still air LISTEN UP ! ! ! DO NOT spend too much on a fan! I just scrapped a Wolfe tanning bed. In it was 8 yes eight nice 115 VAC fans. PERFECT for bators. They are about 4" square and 1 1/2" +/- thick. They will be cheap to chicken buddies.

Thank you everyone for the wonderful compliments. I am rather sad to have to let them go. I really don't understand what the big deal is about Pierre crowing. He isn't any louder than any of the barking dogs in the neighborhood. He also doesn't crow much for a roo either.

I tend to go to bed in the early hours of the morning, and sleep late into the mornings. Even with my windows open the noise isn't that bad. I do often hear him crow, but I frequently sleep right through the crowing.

I do know that I am in a sub-division and I really shouldn't have gotten a roo in the first place. I did ask the three closest neighbors before I got the roo, so I am really not sure who is complaining. I hate it when someone writes a anonymous note. I think it's rather cowardly. Still I am not surprised that there has been a complaint.

At least I have managed to get at least 4 chicks to hatch in the past couple of weeks. I am fairly sure that at least one of the chicks is a pure breed. I also have a bunch more eggs in the bator. As long as the bator continues to behave its self I should get some more chicks from Pierre.

are you allowed roos by law? If so - too bad for them =) If you aren't able to...well...darn it. I keep thinking of these four or five cockerel-looking chicks; I do so wish I could keep one boy! Just one! LOL The dogs behind us are FAR louder than our chickens (roosters even) could ever be.

OK for the record NO we won't be able to make it to the PNPA/ME show in Puyallup (sp). Chickielady was so kind and called me last pm to offer us a ride.
I really appreciate the offer but right now I am busier than a one legged woman at a but kickin contest on a hot tin roof!
The countdown is on. We will soon be making our first dune trip in 2 years.

Hi,
Been busy building our coop, this weekend. It is 4x8. Do you guys think that 4 feet of roost is enough for 6 hens (one is a bantam). We are almost done with the exterior and roofing. I left DH out there to pound nails while I figure out some plans for interior.

THANKS!!!

I try and give each bird about 10" to 12" of roost space. I also try and put all roosts at the same height.
