Jess, that new run is stunning!!!
Can't wait to see what VF does for SadieSue, CFlaming and me too.

The pictures are great! I am very excited. The boys are cute too. My daughter was 3 when my DH first built our coop. She got to hammer a few nails and hang out. She is 11 now and still remembers building the coop with Dada.

Yep, we're pretty excited here too! DH is going to be home by 10 am and I've got the drill charging. I am amazed how quickly and easily DH bought into the plan when I told him about it. Most often he'll give me a hard time just because it amuses him I think.

I believe VF is going to be finishing up at Jess's and we'll be seeing him and his DW sometime today. I'm hoping it will be cooler today but that the hard rain holds off.

I feel fortunate to be a part of the VelvettFog World Coop Tour 2012!

Dave - looking good. Sounds like your summer is going to be busy. LOL. Also looks like I am going to have to build my turkey run/coop soon as I had 2 escapees from their current enclosure. It is nice and big, but it has no top. We clipped 1 wing, but still 2 escaped.

CL: Right now it is looking like we have 2 toms - 4 hens. I think this is a good combo.everyone will stay if this is what we have. the older tom is starting to show his "warts" on his head. He fluffed up today as he was concerned about something. They are so funny.

Welcome newbies.

CL: When you were talking about how you mixed food....Can I call you, I have a few questions....or can I PM or email you? What would be best for you? I don't want to seem like a pain, I just need a little verification and clarification.

Well, we have been throwing around the name "Willow Flats Poultry" (for the giant-giant willow tree we have in our back yard and the area we live is considered "the Flats"). whatcha think?

Husband just came up for air (out of the basement) ..... wants to go yardsale-ing. See ya all later.

I just ordered the pullet-shut door. Spendy lil' bugger. But, we had to do something since it seems like finding someone to open the door to let the chickens out of the coop and into the run for a few hours each day while we're on vacation wasn't going to happen. The neighbors we thought would be willing were not. The rest of the coop will be "automated". They would have enough food to last the entire time we're gone, and then some. We have a nipple system connected to a large bucket. Might as well automate the door. I really didn't think it was going to be that difficult to find someone to open and close a door at their convenience... esp. since money had been offered. Oh well.

Now I'm just hoping we have enough sunlight in this grey and drizzly state for the solar panel to work.

Quote: we are trying to be supportive and that is why we left him in jail....but yet I had a mom call and tell me what a horrible person was to do this to David. I was so upset.

I want to thank everyone for their support...I really need it.
I hope you told her to mind her own business. Parenting is hard. It's not always easy to make the right choices.

Willow Flats Poultry is nicer than Flaming Chickens-which is what I am considering.

70+ degrees with high humidity is one thing, 90+ degrees with 90+ humidity is quite another and very miserable.

I can vouch for that. I lived in Virginia Beach, VA for 15 years with being stationed there and hubby stationed there. It felt like I was drowning by breathing the air. 90+ degrees and humidity out. Even with the humidity we have here, I can at least breathe, and the heat isn't oppressive. Then you get hurricanes that bring in the downpours like someone is dumping a giant bucket. And the humidity just stays around 99 to 100 percent, you still have the heat, and we'd lose power, so no AC to help any.

You may want to check with your local HS for kids who need cash. The kids on the HS football team are raising $ for their equipment. I hired 2 kids (AM and PM) to take care of my pets while we are gone. $10/hr

Again....thank you EVERYONE for your support. This is the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my life. I am only surviving this because of the positive support we are receiving. I just kept saying through my head yesterday the list of people who agree with what we are doing. Mind you...the boy is 19...I don't have any kind of final say. And I can't "influence" the judge like this mom said I was doing....he makes his own decisions. I am just glad that this is how the judge is doing it.

Regarding the alcohol and where he is getting it...truly no clue. I don't know that this mom has bought it. But where there is a will there is a way..they wanted it..it could have been a number of different people. I even made a comment to the mom that he is not legal drinking age...this is not okay...18 and 19 year old's do NOT get to "social" drink....does she not get that there are laws for a reason - their friggin brains are still developing.

Anyway, I can't sleep. But I just wanted to thank all of you again and your support.
Let us know if we can help in any way, Teresa.
