My "DH" just drove home drunk. I am beyond livid. This is not like him and I don't know what the he** he was thinking. And he drove his drinking buddy home too! Just the thought of putting his friend in danger and all the rest of those on the road-oh my God the more I think about it the angrier I am getting.

Thank God I am taking the kids down to Oregon tomorrow, because I don't even want to be in the same room with him for at least a week. He won't even remember a word I said to him tonight, which wasn't much because I will wait until tomorrow. But I did tell him if he ever ends up in jail on a DUI that he'll stay there.

Now I am listening to him re-experience everything he drank. I hope it was frickin worth it. I am absolutely disgusted with his behavior right now.

I know. My man was spoiled when he hunted with his dad, who had a really great springer (I think) that was trained perfectly. Sadly, hubby only goes for doves and pigeons now, and hunting dogs hate fetching doves. So, no hunting dog. BUT, I am training mine as if she were a hunter. It's really good for their mindset, and it makes for a happy family all round.

I hope your hubby gets one sooner rather than later. If he's as good a man as mine, then he probably deserves it!

My husband mostly hunts turkey now. I don't know that he's gone hunting for other birds since Max died. He used to hunt quail, pheasant, ducks, geese and doves. Right after Max died, he wouldn't even think of getting another dog. It's been a few years. Now that he's talking about it, I'm guessing he's probably getting close to being ready to find a new one. We'll have to recover from the expense of chickens first.

That's pretty far for me to drive with the kids :( But I really want one!

Question for anyone who knows their breeds: I'm just wondering who in my flock is most likely to go broody, if anyone? I certainly hope I have at least one good broody breed in my mix, so that maybe I can skip the silkie and count on one I've already got?
RIR (I know, she won't be a good mama most likely...)
Black Australorp
Buff Orpingtons
Easter Eggers
Welsummer
GLW
Marans/EE x
Cuckoo Marans/Ameraucana x
my australorps are broody alllll the time. One of them actually takes chicks from other hens. She usually takes all the chicks when the other hens decide they are too big and ready to be on their own haha

Aw, that's adorable!!

Hey itsren/Renee!! Guess what? We finally get to meet tomorrow! I'm apologizing in advance. The house will NOT be up to par with my normal standards. It's a filthy mess right now because all I want to do is work outside. Must be a symptom of having backyard chickens? Any way, try not to judge too harshly, I'm tired LOL

Oh Id love to have two at the least, pm me and let me know how much to see if I can swing it.

Z,

I am hoping to make one this weekend so I can get an idea of the materials and effort required. I think that they are not too difficult once you get the mechanics down. I'll be sure to post here once I've finished the first one.

Then we just have to figure out how to 'deliver' them :)

Yup...you've convinced me. No dog! That's the last thing I need. My almost 4 year old daughter still pees herself many times a day and YDS is nowhere near potty trained. I DEFINITELY don't need to be training a dog whilst training 2 kids too :/ Nope, I'll wait until the kids are teens and let them take care of the dog chores ;)

I can completely understand your decision. My kids are 3 & 5.

It is, however, possible for you to find a good older dog. We got Nala in January, and she'll be 2 next month. After the puppy disaster, we settled on an older dog and searched for the exact breed we wanted. Breeds are predisposed to behaviors. Some are hunters, some are headers, some are guards.... And older dogs are not as difficult as puppies. We worked with a great placement agency. We didn't end up getting a dog from them since Nala showed up as perfect as could be, but I know someone who did.

Anyway, just saying that it is possible to get a great dog who requires little work and still take care of cats, fish, chickens, kids, house.........man, no wonder I'm tired!!!
