Popping in for a quick hello!!! Welcome to all the newbies!!! Hope everyone is able to stay cool the next few days and my prayers go out to all those dealing with the fire situation. So sad!!!

Just been super busy here doing summer stuff. Watering the gardens, making jam, cracking the whip at my girls to get all their stuff ready for fair which starts next week!!! We have to work in the barn tomorrow night to set up for fair. NOT looking forward to doing it in the heat!!!

Hope everyone is well!!!

Hey all,
The mother/daughter team that I counseled in May is just about finished building their "Chick Chalet" and ready for pullets to move in! I have a wish list of desired breeds that they would like to find and coordinate for ease of blending flocks if need be. They are looking to start with 10 birds to begin with. They have done a TON of research and I'm really proud of the thoughtful planning they've done.

If you have any of their desired breeds, could you PM me so that I can pass on your information (town, phone #, breed, price) to them? Just to show you the luxurious their prospective flock will be living in, I'm sharing a few photos with you as well.

Breeds they would like:
Australorps (it will always be the hopeful on the list)
Orpingtons - Lavender and/or Buff
Wyandottes - Silver Laced, Blue Laced Red, or Golden Laced
Welsummers
Olive Eggers
Also possible: Faverolles, Plymouth Rock & Delaware

Still, what's most important is: local, trustworthy breeders, and winter hardy and fairly docile hens.

What a nice set up. I do have some black EO but the lav are both roosters if she wonts one let me know..

*sigh* It's been so hot lately I don't want to keep the girls in the run. I found one egg in the nest box this morning, but I've been hoping that with all these darn squatters, more of them would start laying! 4 eggs in 4 days though, woohoo! I hope they aren't laying in some remote area of the yard though, I'd never find an egg in some of the thick underbrush we have.

WOOHOO!!!! Congrats, how fun!! I still get excited just going to check several times each day for new eggs ;)
What a great experience to go out and check for eggs. After the thrill of the first one, you get the thrill of finding the fresh warm one or the thrill of finding several in the same spot. Or finding the egg in a place that you didn't expect.
Not to mention trying to identify which hen laid which egg.

Everyday I get a thrill when I get an egg.

Well this is odd. I feel like a stranger in my house today. I have 2 cleaning ladies here because I've been in too much pain to do it myself for some time now. I hate sitting here feeling useless while they work though! They probably think I'm a lazy bum :(
For whats it worth.. I used to have a housecleaning company when I was paying for college.... I never thought badly of any of my clients.. I was just happy to have the work and the Job and honestly I was worried about weather or not they were happy with my work and going to keep me coming :) Later when I hired others to work for my company I always stressed that we were a "service" business so having a happy relaxed customer was the goal..:)

Congratulations!!!! All these first egg stories have me thinking I need to add to my laying flock heheee:) I saw some Blue Wyandotte chicks today I was very tempted :)

Quote: Thanks! I do feel better now. The ladies were nice (one spoke minimal english, the other spoke none) and seemed to want to make me happy; the one who spoke english kept asking me "You like?" and of course I gushed about their work each time since it was awesome!

Oh, and Blue Laced Red Wyandottes are one chicken I MUST have next year. I don't care if I only allow a broody to hatch me **2** chickens (because after that I'd be really pushing the limits of my coop and run), I'm GOING TO HAVE THAT BIRD in my flock! LOL
