Hi everyone,

Someone asked me to post pics of my coop when I got done. I am not completely done, but I have gotten a lot of great suggestions from you all. I have raccoon proofed it and learned a lot of coop safety things from this site. So I thank all of you. And here is my coop so far :)

This was the design I wanted. So I thought I would build my own and make it bigger, as this one was only big enough for 2 birds.

Here's my extra sturdy corners, lol. We get high winds here once in a while and I would hate to have it leaning or fall apart.

We made lots of windows that can be closed up in the winter. And a door on each side for easy cleaning.

We let the chicks check it out and took a break. Coco was chick watching, lol.

Our attempt at roofing, lol. It gets the job done, and it's just for us. It is sturdy!

This is the coop door we rigged up. I just drilled holes to run the string through so we can open and close the door easily. They all go in there at sundown now and we just close the door for them :) totally secure

another view, oh you can see the tree branch we put in there for the roost, and the door on this side for cleaning.

haha, this is the raccoon proofing that we did before we put the fancy roof on there. sorry its out of order, lol

Here is a nice pic of the inside. The roost is a tree branch the kids brought home one day as a walking stick, but it was huge, so I asked them if I could use it in the coop :)

Here's a view of the roof. You can see our hardware cloth that we secured for the raccoon proofing again.

The chickies are digging the roost we put in :)

Put the plywood on the roof. Next comes the shingles, we will get to that soon. Oh and we added some lattice for decoration. Gotta be pretty

So that's what we have so far. The chickies enjoy running around the yard. That 90 degree weather really did a number on our grass. I will have to be watering extra to get it to green up again. And I will be putting in the rest of the raised beds for the garden this fall so we will be ready for planting in the spring. I just do what I can, when I can, because my schedule is so crazy around here. But we are loving the chickies, and the neighbors even think it's cool we have chickens! They are 8wks old tomorrow :)

and here's the kids holding the chicks :)

She was all proud of herself, lol. she said Pandora wouldn't calm down so she just flipped her upside down, lol

Very handsome, and cute kids, too.

Itsren. Don't know about the red ants. I do know DE has a wide degree of sucess for some and not others.
Here is an excellent link that is very educational. I wouldn't buy mine from there as feed stores much cheaper but lot of great info there.
As you will read for human consumption lot of different results.

I got a huge bag for free via Craig's List... I think you may have posted that link a while back. Thank you... by the way. I was so excited to get that!

I'll check into the link. I may try dusting that area after the wood chips have fully dried out from my attempt at drowning them. I don't want DH to use any more chemicals in the kid's play area.

4 eggs so far today and I'm expecting 2-4 more! Wahoo!!!!! This is so exciting for me and DH doesn't even care. He just says "I'm glad you're happy about that weirdo"

I hope I wasn't misunderstood. It's not that I don't like kids I just have a little trouble interacting so kind of avoid ! I am pretty sure there may be somebody else here who feels similar.

I used to be the same way (pre-kids). Interacting with little ones who think the goofiest things are funny is definitely a learned skill! Even today I'm struggling to figure out what they think is so funny.

When I took that photo of my daughter I immediately thought she's covering her face just like CR always does in his photos! LOL!
