My egg "gift" to the people whose house we went to this evening for dinner. They LOVED them! (The green eggs are both from "sister" Easter Eggers...weird that they're so different huh?)

I will post more pics tomorrow of each birds' egg and tell the breed. I love eggs!!

How do you all afford the water to have a garden? Do you have your own well?
The cost of water where I live is ridiculous. If I was to water the lawn and garden everyday, my water bill would be over $60/month. So when the dry comes, my shrubs get some water, the grass (otherwise known as weeds) turns brown and goes dormant which inturn mean I don't cut grass which saves me buku $$.
With that said, I am leaning towards a garden next year, but I will have to see when the time comes.
I water my yard about every 3 days. Pots everyday (more if it's hot) and I've been running about $75 a month. I cringe if I have to fill up my garden pond or forget and leave the sprinkler running overnight. Each is an easy $100.

Yup .. own well. There are some very interesting techniques for folks who need to conserve water. One that I want to experiment with is this -- http://permaculturenews.org/2010/08...sforming-woody-debris-into-a-garden-resource/

Not the best link, but it might perk your interest.

Mikey -- also check out this wonderful book that itsren told me about:

Wow, that was an interesting read. I may have to try one of those beds. Dragging hose after hose out isn't any fun (takes two 100 ft ones to reach my garden) and if those beds help retain water that would be awesome. And it mentioned being good on damp soils, too, which really interests me. I may be hauling branches for piles this week now.

Del's has bird seed at 35lbs for $10.00
This is great for the winter time or any time they need to be in their run.
I throw straw in all over to stop the rain puddles in the winter then throw bird seed in the straw and it keeps them busy searching for seed.

That's a good idea! What about scratch? Why not just use scratch instead of bird seed? Just wonderin', newbie and all
