Bummer. Thanks though.

So.... if I order "show quality" Light Brahma eggs and end up with a cockerel and a pullet or two spare, would anyone take a breeding pair/trio off my hands so I have a local breeder to get future Brahma's from?

Fingers crossed I'd actually get pullets. That would not be good to buy eggs and end up having to fill a freezer.

I might be able to take them off your hands if you go with the eggs. I have a few 8 week old light Brahmas now, and thinking I might want to keep them in my flock. I bought sexed pullets so IF I don't end up with a rooster I will more than likely try to find a SQ one.

Yup, I think she knows since she's been to my house before, but technically they could still burrow under it if they don't come up above ground at the edge of the run. I'm just gonna stop worrying about it and work on the run to ensure the big stuff stays out. I may need a tradle feeder but that's OK.

Your Uncle who owns Webster Road Feed???? Brian???? I love him...(purely friendly of course LOL) My family has gone to Webster Road Feed for many years. I buy most of my supplies and chicks from him they have always been healthy and nice. He is always trying to send home a kitten or duck or some other critter with me or my daughter.. Its always a blast to go in and have a chat with him when he has time.. He is always quite patient with my questions too... He is an awesome character... Too cool!!!! Small World.
Yep that's him. He likes to joke alot even with me. His wife is sick, doing amazingly well with her treatments, so he's not as joking but still tried to sell us more then we needed lol.

27 chickens of mine or belonging to my 4Hers are at the Puyallup Fair and I am pooped! There are a ton of seramas there. Anyone who wants to see a real serama tabletop show should go Friday night. Judging of caged birds is Saturday then we pick them all up Sunday and do it all again for the Youth Show in 2 weeks. September is a busy time for us.
How do I find a 4-H group for my daughter to join? I want her to get into chickens, maybe dogs later.

Jessica (FireWifeJess),

Do any of these critters look familiar to you? My husband said if the animal that is burrowing is using a tunnel to get into your run, putting a hardware cloth apron up probably won't keep it out because it will continue to burrow beneath the hardware cloth.

My sexlink is always catching and killing those shrews! I have never had a chicken that has been good at or cared to catch them. If I am there I don't let her eat it. I just can't deal with that. She hates it when I take it away!
I am more worried about rats. And I don't like mice, but I know we have them all over the place!

Quote: Jess, I let my kids play with alot of things and do alot of things that I know other parents would cringe at too. And mine didn't wear helmets either.

They are not riding bikes anymore and they survived. Without too much damage, mostly.

Yeah...is it technically BAD that John has had a pocket knife since he turned 4?

My dad gave it to him. He's only cut himself once.

Mine had one since he was young too. But we live out in the boonies and he liked to whittle, so he would cut down little branches with the hatchet then use a steak knife to whittle. Not good for the steak knives! He has been shooting rifles since he was 7 and when he was 14 and 15 he was involved in CAP and was doing exceptionally well in the marksmanship encampments. He knows more about gun safety than I do and I was taught at a young age too! We all have different styles of parenting and unless the kids are neglected or abused, I think that's ok.
Heck! I keep thinking about all the precations we take now, and wonder how I survived! Lol!
Renee, I did have my kids wear helmets when they were really little and learning to ride.

KMHunter- the first time I shot a gun I wasn't yet 2 years old! My dad took me and a cousin, laid us down in the back of his truck bed, propped up the gun on a pillow, and we shot at squirrels (and killed a bunch!) ion a field that day. I grew up around guns, knives, hunting, animals, and "dangerous" stuff but even at 2 I had common sense not to touch guns unsupervised. My dad woulda killed me if the gun hadn't! LOL it's a different world now and I feel like my kid are missing out :(

Thank you to CR for the quick run down of the protine info. So I went out to check how much was in my feed and it is only 16%. There wont be to much in the way of scratch treats for them now, only every now and then, but I am wondering should I try and find a way to up the protien? Like maybe adding some flock raiser mixed in with their layer crumbles? I do have turkeys to so it would not be to big of a deal to buy that stuff as well.

Oh and as far as ya'lls conversation of the safty of your kids, My kids ride bikes and skate bords the only time I have them wear helmets is when we go for a walk along the streets because of cars. Other than that they climb and jump off construction equipment that we have at our house ( it's ours) climb trees and so many other things that a lot of other parents would be worried about. But we do not let our kids walk the streets by them selfs. That is where we are parinoid and over protective. Their bus stops are 4 blocks away right on 164th st, they don't have to cross any streets but they are not to walk there or back with out me. 50% is because I don't trust people any more as far as their driving and watching out for kids, and as far as child snatchers, the other 50% is that kids will be kids some times and wont pay attention eather. We did how ever decide this summer that our two most responsible kids could walk together to QFC right up the street. Again they don't have to cross any streets so that makes me feel better, but they can't go alone they always have to be together and have the "kids" cell phone with them to at least call me when they are heading back.
Sorry for my rambling, ok I will be back later I get to go to the oh so fun DOL today! yeah me...

Yes I think I made them wear helmets when on the street with lats of cars. And I don't trust other people, and other drivers either. Cel phones are great for that kind of peace of mind.
