I also shop at Vitacost. LOVE me some huge tubs of gold AKA Coconut Oil. We go through almost a half gallon a month of coconut oil, it's so good for EVERYTHING! I'll have to look for that brand of pasta and try it out. Does Vitacost sell that pasta because I usually buy mine at Fred Meyer but it's probably cheaper at Vitacost. I need to place an order anyway, I'll go look.

We just avoid processed too because it makes it easier. ya know? like an apple, ingredients:apple

Jess, I don't remember where I read it, but I did read somewhere recently that it's best to provide supplemental light only in the mornings. I don't think you need lights in the run because as was said before, they won't go out there if it's dark.

Wish I could afford to eat fancy diet food. :(

Hello friends,
I've been lurking for months and I've noticed we have so many new people.
A belated welcome to you all!

Some of you know my son was overseas. I'm so happy to report that he's back, safe and sound.

Which means I'm up for a party!

Who wants to get together?

The photo is of my first year "cottage" garden. Mostly fragrant flowers, herbs, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and the yummiest Italian plums.
So delicious to go out and water the gardens these beautiful September mornings!

I used to think that. Because we COMPLETELY 100% gave up all junk food and prepackaged food, we are now able to afford more healthy food. We are, however, forced to cook everything from scratch, which can be good and bad sometimes. There's NO eating out. McDonald's as a quick stop? Only if everyone wants diarrhea for the next 2 days. But eating healthy is possible with MAJOR changes. I highly encourage you to watch those documentaries I listed and if you want to change your diet in an extreme way to promote nothing but HEALTH, please PM me. I would be happy to help you make some changes!

I've gotten good at reading the labels looking for wheat and gums. Mom can't handle the gums, they all make her very sick. She's allergic to wheat in all forms. And she lives in a wheat producing area. She has to stay away from my Great Uncle's place when he's harvesting. The dust in the air almost kills her.

She's not sure about rye and isn't willing to test it. She's allergic to all grass species pollen and grasses touching her. She can eat most of the other grass grains, with rice being the least troublesome.

She's given up trying to eat any processed or packaged foods. She eats grass fed meat from my Great Uncle, deer, elk, fish, or chicken. Rest is usually a potato and a large salad. She got really strict on it back in March. Trying to get back to how they ate when she was growing up. She's had very high triglycerides for the last couple decades. Doctors had her try lots of different pills over the years. She'd had a checkup in March and it was still in the 480s. July was her next appointment. Her triglycerides were 199. Doctor was quizzing her on everything she was eating as soon as she walked in before telling her. Said that there is no drug out there that can do that to triglycerides in such a short amount of time.

I'd try it, but I can't get my DH to eat like that. Dad eats whatever mom fixes without complaint. It's to much work and money to make separate meals for me and DH and then have him get upset.

Yep its cheaper through vitacost.

I get my oil from tropical traditions. I need to find a brand I like for back up though because they are a bit spendy.

I already don't eat out and don't buy processed food. (OK, ice cream occasionally when I can afford it). I already cook from scratch every day. I already buy everything from Costco. Not sure what else I can do. Sometimes all I can afford is beans, rice, pasta, etc. Fresh veggies are sometimes in the "luxury" category for me. I will admit that cheese is my biggest weakness.
