Can I sub ground sausage in a recipe calling for ground beef? Essentially it's the same thing right? I have some recipes and I am trying to use up everything we have before shopping again.
Yes you can sub but the flavor will be a lot different. And NO they aren't the same sausage is seasoned ground pork. Primarily used as a breakfast meat. Ground beef aka hamburger is just ground beef (no seasoning).

I sure like that idea! Where did you get the one way glass?
I am "the ultimate pack rat" See while my "coop" page tells how I got the little coops. I got the windows when I scrapped out a large travel trailer. So these windows are also sliders too.

IF AnimalLover99 is near I can set them up with a fan. PM me.
Quote: I don't actually wash them. I do rinse them very thoroughly and lightly salt the cavity. Then I rub them down with a mix of salt, pepper, paprika and sage.
Then into the over at 350 degrees. Yummmmm! Oh my bad I should have read the whole post.

The other day, I was putting a new suet cake out. I knocked a chunk bigger than a tablespoon out to put the new cake in the feeder. It didn't break upon hitting the bricks, and Pudge (Australorp) struck like a viper and grabbed the WHOLE THING. It was fairly impressive since there were at least six other chickens in the same small space. She sprinted into the side yard with George right on her tail. By the time I was done, George was back but Pudge was still absent. I walked around to the back yard, where she was finishing the last few crumbs. She's really living up to her name.

Congrats!! I'll go look when I'm home. Right now I'm at my nerve conduction EMG study; pray for me, they aren't pleasant and I'm nervous. Isaac came with me <3
Hope it went well for you. If it's anything like my moms appointments you could certainly use a hand to hold. (or grip so hard you cripple the person holding your hand....I was the hand holder, poor mom, it helped her a bunch though) :)

WOW looks like it was a good night not to be on here !!! Looks like ya'all have beat that dead horse to the point there ain't even enough hide to make a pair of gloves out of.

So Can we PLEASE put this to rest in order to preserve OUR thread. I would hate to see something to cause the #1 (YES WA is the # 1) state thread closed simply because we can't build a bridge and get over differences in opinion.

(I also like to stuff them with chopped apple and halved garlic cloves, along with fresh herbs from the garden.)

I watched an interesting pair of videos on YouTube about how to kill and butcher chickens for meat. I'd love to try a few meat birds in the spring.

Nite all! I'm exhausted. Tomorrow I'm going to see if I can pull together the supplies to wash my little no-longer-white-mud-ball. If anyone knows where I can get "blueing" please let me know. I'd like to pick up in the morning. I think Caunnie's going to need a face washing, at the very least, too. Her muff is muddy. Rhodie is the only one who has appeared to stay clean. They managed to get into the finished compost part of the bin. I'll need to get that pulled out of the compost bin and stored in a closed garbage can, or dig it into a garden bed or something.
You can get blueing just about any grocery store, in the laundry section. It is used to make whites look whiter by giving it a very very very slight blue color, thus counteracting any yellowing. Using too much gives things a bluish tinge. Do not spill it, stains pretty easily.

Ha Ha, I went for a little walk around the front of our property out by the road and found our chicken/dog Huney! She was just over at the neighbors yard cleaning up some bugs for them. Hope they don't mind a chicken in their yard, but at least I now know why MY chickens cross the road....

Sorry I just had to say that!

I'm going to google where Kelso is. If the gas won't cost too much, I'm interested. 20 or 29 would be better than 10.

Sounds good, just let me know.

I always referred to the crib as "baby jail". And there were times they got put there because they couldn't stay out of trouble.

I will sneak quietly out of this conversation now...

Hehehehe, us too!! When they figured out how to climb out we moved to the swing...dun dun dunnnnnn. Lol

I woke up to a phone call from my neighbor because my chickens were in her back yard. There's a 6 foot tall chain link fence between us and no one's ever escaped our coop before, so I was pretty confused about how that would be possible, thinking maybe they were mistaken and one of the other neighbors' chickens were over there. Sure enough, though, 3 of our 4 girls were in their yard and one of the doors on the coop was hanging open (they're secured by window latches it takes a good human grip to open). All I can think is that we used to have an issue with neighborhood teenagers skipping through our backyard and maybe they did it, but I don't see why they'd open the coop or toss chickens over a 6 foot fence. I've been searching for Maki all day and still haven't found her...I haven't found feathers anywhere either so I'm trying to be hopeful, but I'm feeling crushed.

Oh no!! I'm sorry to hear about Maki! Any luck finding her yet?

Thanks! And my mom's life is wonderful now! In May, we moved her into a Continuing Care Retirement Facility in Oregon where she will live the rest of her life. Her apartment is beautiful. The amenities are AMAZING! Before we moved her there, we checked the floors with the higher levels of care and they were extremely clean, smelled wonderful and the staff was great. Everyone who lives there loves it. Many of the people who live there live well into their 90s. They currently have 2 residents who are over 100. For the first time ever, my mom radiates joy and feels safe. I'm so happy for her.

Because of my life experiences, I have a completely different view on many things in life. Honestly, I wouldn't trade it. When I work with youth through Scouts, I can relate to many more kids than I would be able to had I not had the experiences I have had.

Glad to hear things turned around for you and your family. I can't even imagine that as a child or as a mom. My husband's up bringing was very similar to yours though, but also like yours, life got much better for him!
I think it's awesome that you use your life experiences to help today's children.

I picked some up at Winco. Laundry only takes a few drops. I can't remember how many you use for bird bath water. We used to use it on my aunts samoyeds before shows.
