Hate to say it, but with Midnight you may just be waiting for the egg laying to start (or not). Are your chocolates all females? I did have one Runner drake who only had a tail feather right after his molts. The way he carried himself, it always seemed to get worn off cause it was always dragging on the ground.

My latest babies are nearly five weeks now and I'm just starting to hear some possible quacks (though haven't figured out what's coming from whom yet). All last week I was wondering if I was going to have another batch of all males, so am a bit relieved to think I might have at least a girl or two.

Thanks for the heads up on the Northern Lights! I know they are hard to predict, except knowing about conditions that could lead to them, but it will certainly be worth hanging on the deck extra long tonight just in case.

I would love Midnight to be a hen but her/his personality is so calm and sweet I don't care what she/he turns out to be! Samuel (aka Shaniqua) is definitely a much more aggressive dominate male. He is still a sweetie but no one had better mess with his girls or he will sound the alarm! He and Dove are the leaders of the flock! She is the loudest hen and bossy little twit. They are a perfect match!

Oklie Doklie, my RIW eggs are shipped !
(Sigh!, Yawn !!!) I cannot believe I finally found them and I cannot believe I am digging out the bator AGAIN !!!!!
I also will have to add onto the chicken house AGAIN it is going to be bigger than our cabin pretty soon !

The woman selling them says the big white roo is very tame and very nice and mellow...I was concerned because RIW's are a product of White Leghorns, White Cochins, and a few other breeds, eons ago to make this breed.
Leghorns being famous for aggressiveness.
Nasty attack roosters are something I will not tolerate.
So..am I the queen of all of us looney chicken hatchers or what ?
And JessicaRabbit thought she was the queen !

Some how I got unsubscribed to the link....had to refind it this morning. We tried with the fluids, but the dove must have had an injury. It died this morning. We tried though. Such a pretty little bird.

4cats3kids ... -- It was really nice of you to try. Birds don't seem to do very well once they are sick or injured. You are right, there is something kind of extra special about the doves. I love it here when they are cooing. Maybe because it reminds me of my years in Hawaii where they seemed to coo non-stop in the background.
