Now I have another animal on my brain...goats! I mentioned how cool it would be to have dairy goats to use for milk to my DH when he was in a rare good mood and he said MAYBE!!! To me that is another way to say "pursue this"!! I plan on studying a lot before going ahead on this matter though as it will be a bit more costly to start up on goats than with chickens!

Hope everyone is healthy out there. Was it Jess or Renee who had sick younguns? Hope they are better. I pretty much have my voice back and throat isn't too sore but the cough is still hanging on. Last year, it hung on for 6wks in the spring and about 8wks starting last winter into this last spring. The last stint started 2wks after my first flu shot ever. Don't think I'll get another one as it seemed pointless. Thought the rest of my family were in the clear but DH just came down with the flu this evening

. It is always preferable for me to be the sick one. It's too hard when the others, especially DD, are the sick ones.

He's a Brabanter. His egg came from Hallerlake but he was raised by Dawn. Those Europeans really have a thing for interesting crests, what with the Polish chickens and these guys (not to mention the Appenzellers).

I want to add a crested bird to my flock someday. I'll have to add Brabanters to the list. At this rate I'll have twice the city's limit.

We're thinking of getting more kennel panels and making a large run for at night for a couple goats. I can build a home for them under the rear awnings on the carport right next to the chickens. I have some T posts and fencing I'm going to get up this year after the ground softens again. Make a few little pasture areas I can move critters between. Take the weed wacker out there and mow down a few lines for fencing through the nasty tall grass.

Fricken CR!! We are on the phone trying to find breast cancer awareness avatars, and I'm having problems saving them! and he's stealin my favorites to use on here!!! The bum!!!

Hi Washingtonians,
I need to ask a question of all you Wa peeps. I either have a rat or a chipmunk getting into the bottom of my coop. I found a little hole dug under the wooden edge this morning. It is shallow and only about 3" in diameter. I think it's getting in to steal dropped feed in the run. I have an A frame, so the hens are locked up in the top portion at night, below the coop is the bare grass. I took the feeder and locked it into a steel can this evening. So, hopefully this little intruder will not come back. I also put some heavy stones along the areas where there are small gaps.

Darn it, so far I haven't had any prob with this! But I guess the intruder is hungry now that it's fall.

Any thoughts?
