I most certainly do! Mr. Burkholtz was an awesome teacher!!

So, gee... I think we're practically related then right??
Oh... can you hear it??? Listen carefully, hum along if you know the tune... It's a small world after all, It's a small world after all, it's a small, small, world.

I've heard he was pretty popular, but that was through the family grapevine and you know how proud aunts can sometimes exaggerate.

Actually it's MRS. Burkholtz that is my cousin. Sadly she passed away a few years ago so now Glenn gets the title. Good people.

I was over there for the county fair a couple of years ago, little cousins had steers in 4-H so we got to hang out and join in the activities. That's a pretty cool little fair, do you show anything there, or have kids doing the 4-H thing?

I might have a bunch, at least I used to. I haven't looked in a long while since the compost bin has so much chicken poop in it.

One of the things on my to-do list was to screen compost and get the good compost out of there, because I'm out of compost/poop storage space. Maybe I can do that soon and let you know. So, if I do pull out a bunch of worms - how do I store them? And, by the way - I'd give them to you. Would you be willing to meet me in Southcenter somewhere?
I don't ever get down to Southcenter~are you coming to third place books on Friday? I will be there. If that's too soon, I understand :)

I have bought worms online before and they just ship them in some damp newspaper, in a bag, with air holes, and then in a box.

Hooray! It's bi-annual worming day today! I've written my list of chickens and I'm off to do them one at a time until they're all caught and checked off. Might have to wait until tonight to do some...if I can't catch them with treats this afternoon. Fun times huh? I hope that helps Ethel grow a little bit. She *might* be the one chicken that I know escaped worming last time around.

Do you really need to worm again so soon? Other than the two you got from Cloverleaf, aren't the rest of your girls only two weeks older than mine, or younger? Mine are 25 weeks tomorrow. Everything I've read seems to suggest waiting until they are 9 months old or older before worming. Plus, we've had a very dry season - meaning they're not eating a lot of worms. Earthworms don't come up when the ground is dry. I'm not saying they haven't had access to earthworms or bugs that might be carriers, but their access has been limited because we have not had much in the way of rain - unless you water.

Your girls have had an awful lot of different medications for only being 27 weeks old, or younger. I wonder if that is why you are having so many problems. The more you medicate, the more you weaken their immune systems - plus, you are opening the door for super-bugs to grow that are resistant to the medications.

Any old-timers, can you give us advice how old chickens should be when you start to worm?

At this point, I'm still not planning on worming yet, unless someone can convince me otherwise. I got chickens so my family can enjoy eggs that come from chickens that are not heavily medicated. So far, the only medication my chickens have ever had was medicated feed, which we stopped at 18 weeks before they started laying. Mine weren't even vaccinated.

OREGON SWAP on OCT. 27 anyone?

Is anyone from this group going.... Cloverleaf.... CR.... others??
I'd love to say hello face-to-face if you're there.

We're taking the trailer down then heading to the beach for a couple of days I think.

Let me talk to my husband and see if I can come. If I have my van back, I might. If not, I doubt it. Right now we are a 1 vehicle family. I'll let you know.

All this incubator talk is making me glad I'm going to be away the weekend mine are supposed to hatch. I know DH will have no problem ignoring the bator. I think waiting for chicks to hatch those last couple of days might be pretty stressful.

Jennifer.
And that's just one more reason to have a Silkiebator. Ain't any chance she will allow messing with her eggs!!!
