Things to watch
are they eating and drinking ok? are they losing weight? how is their egg production?

Hey RW thanks for another solution to the splay leg!! Hadn't seen this one yet!! Ya know, maybe I had the hobbles I made on right after all? But, because the chick kept falling over I thought I did it wrong?

I chuckled when you said your chick kept falling over with hobbles on. Shoot - I keep falling over and I don't have hobbles on. I'm a natural clutz. Your chick had good reason to be one. I can only imagine trying to walk with my legs strapped together.

I tossed a piece of scrambled egg at her and she contemplated it but no go.
is her eye injured that you can see? I got some eye ointment at Del's I will go get it so I can give you the right name. I doesn't hurt to treat the eye as a possible injury alone and put her on antibiotics. I am just not sure which one. PM Chickielady. She might be able to give you some names.
Be right back!

Quote: Ok...the eye ointment is Terramycin. Totally safe even if there is not an eye injury. But better safe than sorry.
Then I have Duramycin-10 and Sulfadimethoxine on hand, but still not sure what the best one would be. But all of these I got at Del's. Does she have a favorite treat? And maybe a favorite friend? Sometimes mine do better and are more willing to eat and drink with a friend. I would also recommend you post this on the emergency thread.
I had an Orpington that got chewed on like a chew toy by a dog and survived. So hopefully she will too!

I am sorry this happened.

Thank you! I don't think I'm going to get anything else to hatch out of these eggs though. I'll just leave the incubator on for a few days, but I don't have much hope. There is one other BLRW that I helped out, but it is having a lot of issues and will likely be culled. Which is a total shame; it's gorgeous.

If I ever try again, I'll probably pick up a Brinsea. They sound pretty dependable, for a small incubator. For now, I'll try to locate a few chicks from good breeders. Anybody have silkie chicks???

Wow, this week wins the total suck award. On top of everything else, one of our close friends is being sent to Harborview tonight with a badly broken leg. She was hit driving home from work on her motorcycle.
Sorry about your friend, and I hope she comes through okay.

I really liked SadieSue's Brinsea and would buy the same model if I were to get an incubator. I do have some young Silkies (hatched from said bator) available but they aren't baby chicks, and it's still not certain if they're boys or girls.

Well, to make you feel better - whoever listed it, listed the address wrong. Or it was a fake ad. We drove all over the place and even talked to the property manager, who had talked to a postman. The address that was listed doesn't even exist. The property manager had quite a few people come by and talk to her. She had no idea who, or where the people with the closing fish tank store were.
That wasn't very nice of whoever posted that ad. Sorry you made the trip for nothing.
