Well, we got a handful of banty eggs for our broody RIR, who has now decided that the yard is where it's at.

Poor DF - he drove all the way to Enumclas (Thanks Christine!) to pick up eggs that are now being ignored.

How long will they remain viable? Maybe Nugget will decide she wants to set again in a day or two - she's been semi-broody for months now. At what point will they never develop? They're probably a few days old now.

Hello chicken friends in Washington state. Eight weeks ago I got my baby chicks and was soooo excited about my first Welsummer, named Rosie. Rosie is turning out to be a Roger however and I can't have a rooster in my suburban backyard. Before I post on craigslist are there any fine chicken friends who want a beautiful young cockerel? I can probably deliver him to you.

hi tailfeathers. thank you for your email! i am truly just a "backyard" chicken person. i got 4 chicks from mypetchicken this june. this was the only weslummer. i was looking forward to dark brown fresh eggs. so, a hatchery rooster he is.

fliikala, I love the pic with the dog and chickens. Wish I could trust my grandaughter's little Pom that much. Any movement from the chickens at all and he is barking right outside the chicken run.

I have thought of taking him in the chicken run with me when I feed the chickens (all 31 of them) corn on the cob.

That might make him respect them a little.

If you like Brinnon, the you may want to check out the Lofall area on the east side of hood canal. I would recomend the Hansville area, but Hansville is just as pricey as Bainbridge.

The Brinnon property just didn't cut it, but I am looking up in Hansville and there is a piece of property that has caught my eye. Hubby and I will be looking at it this weekend. I really wish I could get a piece in Indianola though, but though the prices have dropped it hasn't dropped enough

I think 31 chickens would work......are they all for egg laying or dinner too?

I have 7 chickens and wish I could have more but I also have 5 rabbits that I breed and sell their kits when they are old enough. I love my rabbits but I think I love my chickens more.

My 31 chickens are for my enjoyment but someday soon they will be old enough to lay eggs. The question I get most often is, "What are you going to do with all the eggs?" I am not sure yet, but I have some ideas.

I have a large extended family who all eat eggs. I used to work with adults with disabilities and still am in contact with many of the ones I helped to find housing. They would love fresh eggs to supplement their very tight food budget. The feed store owner said he would help me sell some. I guess I will get creative cooking with eggs. Then, if I still have eggs, there are several food banks around that I can donate to.

The chickens keep me active -- feeding, watering, building, running fencing, etc. That activity (although sometimes difficult) improves my health and keeps me strong. I am getting more chicks this month. My coop remodel will house 45 - 50 chickens and my other coop will hold 12.

I just love those chickens!
