There was another thing about the Del's Starter that I liked. The protein level is 24%. I like to feed lots of things to my chickens, like compostable vegetable things, and grass and seeds. So the 24% will give me the confidence to just do it rather than trying to supplement the protein sources.
The feeds I had been getting were 18% and 20%. The only thing I don't like is that the protein source will be soy. I am still hoping that someone out there will start using field peas instead. I would also love to see Del's climb on board the organic feed train.

One aside. The young woman who waited on my said that chickens don't start laying until a year old. I didn't have the heart to tell her that wasn't exactly true.

Where is Del's in Monroe? I've been to Monroe feed. Is Dels on the other side of Hi-way 2 ? By the RR traks? We bought our chickes at three places. DeYoungs (woodinville) Monroe feed and Dayville in Snohomish. Dayville was the cheapest and Deyoungs the highest. but we are so close to DeYoungs. I bought some 2" chciken wire yesterday.Monroe was the highest with Deyoungs only being $1.00 more than Dayville. Guess ya have to shop around

Ron. Yes, on south side of RR tracks right behind the Shell at the main intersection on H2 in Monroe. Take right at the Shell coming from Monroe farm and Feeds.

Where is Dayville in Snohomish? Been to the tru value Co Op place there.

I've been to Del's over a year ago. I just didn't remember the name of the place. Guess I will have to go up there. to get to Dayville, go north on highway 9. down thru the valley. you know where that light is where there is a nursey on each side of the road? if you go right it will take you to the airport. Go right at that light, then take an immediate right. you will be going south . Dayville is about a mile on your right. Everyone there is really nice. here is the address. I paid $12.75 for 50# of Nutrena layer crumbles there. this is my first bag of layer feed. good, bad, ok price??

RonB,

I live off of Woodinville-Duvall Rd, closer to Duvall. The first right past Saybrook. Old Woodinville-Duvall Rd. Know where that is?

You know, if we got a few people together, we could order feed online and split shipping and maybe get a better price if we buy volume. I know you can do that with organic feed online. De Youngs sells organic feed now but it is $21 per #50 bag. My vet says he gets it online in bulk and gets a discount. Just an idea for anyone in the area.

Yes I know where that is. we aren't too far apart. I grew up over by country village in Bothell. we use to go out to cottage lake(norms resort) all the time when we were kids. wife and I still go for a drive out to Duvall and Carnation once in a while. Hey you could count me in on buying food together. is organic that much better ? I would need something that would be ok for my daughters magpie ducks.
I see you have a golden sexlink. my two will be 16 weeks old tomorrow (fri) am I geting close to eggs yet?

Oh, that is great Brennant. You are going to have so much fun with them. Good Luck!

I wish I could go in on organic feed with you all. I would love to be able to get some. But I just am too far out of the area.

You might also want to check with www.rainbowfarms.com It is a BYCer who has started getting feed from a local mill. I know on her website she says that if the stuff is ordered in bulk you can get it from the mill. She sells a non-soy organic feed. Sounds like they have done a lot to make it a really healthy feed for their flock. Now they sell the feed as well.

Ron. That is around the same price at the CO OP in Snohomish. I'll have to check out that feed store next time I'm in the area. I like going in them even if I'm not there to buy something just like to get idea's for future projects and see whats available.

KMHunter. I'm not really into the whole organic thing for my chickens. I try to give them lot of different foods to eat besides their free range time. Their eggs taste and look great so extra cost for me in this situation makes no sense for me personally.

50 pound bags for $8.49 will I'm going to stock up and hope it lasts me till next sale from some feed store if not Del's.

You might read through the threads here and I bet you could find others who live around here so you could get enough people.

Hippie Chickie. LOL! Yep that will definitely get you moving on the coop. I really loved having them right next to my computer but this room is only 10x16 and I was amazed how it became so dusty so fast.

After I lost one of my Salmon Faverolles yesterday I desided to see if Webster RD Feed had any more of the SF's. They did. I bought the last 10 SF's that they had. They such cute little chicks. I finally stop by the lumber store and picked up 1x2" and I built a transition pen. I had a lot of fun building that. I got to use my darling husbands really cool tools. I would have waited for him to build it for me, but he is down in LA, and doesn't know when he'll be back. It will next week sometime. But with 25 chicks in the brooder pen I had to do something for the Welsumers chicks. They are really ready to go to the big pen. I tried it one day but the EE's started chase the chick right away. So now I have a really nice transition pen in the big coop run. I was able to put the Welsummer chicks out in the transition pen tonight. They are complaining about the move but I am hoping that in the next few days that they will be able to be in the coop and run with the bigger birds.
The 3 little silver duckwing bantams are still hanging on. I am still worrying about the smallest of them. It still isn't fluffy like the other two. It is almost like it needs a bath. But I don't know if giving it a bath is safe for the chick or not. If anyone knows please let me know. I do know that I can't get any more chickens. I am maxed out.

The sale at Del's was great. I stocked up on chicken feed and bought some stall dry to see how that will work. And of course the chicken wire for the transition pen. Del's is the closest feed store to me and the staff are like friends.
