HI I am in Battle Ground, Wa Southern WAshington. I was wondering is anyone was intrested in a free Easter Egger Rooster in Clark County? He is 4 months old and big with a nice crow and sweet disposition. I already have 2, so would like to find him a new home. Email me for molre details.

Thanks,
Country Cluck

I got a list of granges in the area and have put in calls to a couple. Haven't heard anything back yet. Keep the ideas coming, and if you know of a place and can check out the price and the contact person, that would be a big help. Then PM me the info so I can follow up. Trying to snow at my house for the last hour or so. Have a good day! Keep warm!

I was just thinking about the potluck location. With people coming so far it might be good to choose a place as close to the freeway as possible if it can be done within the budget. Unfamiliar back roads can take a lot of time. Can you tell I don't have a GPS?

At 11:00 I called my mom to say that there was snow in Forks. Right now it is white and sticking on the ground. Snowflakes an inch across.

I blame you, my so called friends for this, you know.

Your collective wish for snow was simply too much for the Powers that Be. My small voice joined with a couple of you, my true friends, was not match.

I hope you're happy!

On another note. Welcome back rainplace. I was just wondering this AM (while trying to talk myself into getting up to release the chickens from their coop) whether you were going to be home soon. Welcome! Sorry to hear about your duck. That is very unfortunate. You should have new babies coming this week, shouldn't you. That will be fun.

I don't know if I ever reported that Mr Muscovy (Smoke or Con Man) that I got from Kittymomma has found a home up near where she lives. I had previously sent some hens up to a family up there near Anderson Island, and they have kindly agreed to give him a good home. They have a teen or tween daughter, so I am sure he will have lots of TLC.

So, 5 eggs so far this AM..... One is soft shelled, so I cooked it up for Moody and have the call out for oyster shell now. I have some that I have used in the garden. Can anybody think of any reason why that wouldn't be OK in the interim since the snow may make it tough to get out to get some. Seems like an oyster shell is an oyster shell. Doesn't seem like it would have any additives or anything.

Regarding heat and rental places:

Because they are so expensive to heat, if a place doesn't have daily activities, they often just shut down heat except to vital areas. This is usually not the large halls. I have found that the low price can often be an indicator that this is at least something to inquire about. It takes a long time for the heat to build up to a comfortable level if they have an older system especially. If we rent all day, this might be solved by someone taking possession of the hall several hours earlier and making sure that the heat is pumping out in advance. It may also require that an additional charge is paid to make sure there is adequate heat, or a care person around early to accomodate this need.

I wouldn't say it precludes the use of a place like this, just that the questions should be asked. I have seen several events ruined because everyones breath was coming out in frozen clouds. The places that we had this kind of trouble with were old and poor churches and larger old buildings for Fraternal Organizations or Youth Groups. Since membership is down in both of those areas, they simply can't afford to keep things running when not in use.

Regarding I-5 Corridor

I had this same thought. Has anybody ever tried to get to Northwest Trek. It took us hours one year because we made one wrong move and couldn't seem to get ourselves back out of the mistake. The girl scouts were late for their event, and not a little miffed about it.

Don't be fooled by the uniforms, those little girls can be brutal!

Is there anyone here who could check out the Tacoma, Sea Tac, Tukwilla, Federal Way areas. I have no problem travelling to Donna's so I will be up north. But for those who come from a long distance and travel north on I-5, placing it farther south on the I-5 might bring a larger group.

Regarding How Many Will Ultimately Attend

I think that once a place is located, an invitation to all on this thread should be extended. Seems like that might get a few of the newer ones and those old friends who were absent when we discussed this so much.

Just food for thought.

I Googled granges in Washington, and found this web site. I have calls into about 3 or 4 halls that are not very far off of main freeways and highways. Unfortunately it seems to closer to larger population areas the more money it seems to cost. I have a quote on 1 hall in Puyallup for the 28th of 250.00. The hall only holds up to 90 people. I forgot to ask about a kitchen. I expect to hear back from more halls soon. I looked up halls for King and Pierce Counties. These are the areas that I am most familiar with. If someone else would like to check on some of the halls in other counties, here is the link http://www.wa-grange.org/localgrange.html I was only looking at the halls nearest freeways and major highways that would be really easy to find. I think it will hard to beat 20.00 per hour. The place in Enumclaw is located in the middle of the city of Enumclaw. This is about 20 miles off of I-5 from the HWY 18 exit in Federal Way, WA.

We need to have something rented soon, because a lot of places book up in advance, and as it is we are still considered to be planning without a lot of time before the event for most halls.

Other city facilities, like senior centers should be called also. I also know of a meeting room that was free for community events in the Vancouver WA area. That's a little far for me, just for free. I think that the rooms were owned by Puget Sound Energy. This information is over 10 years old. I haven't even looked into VFW halls or other fraternal organizations. So maybe if we all work together with a few phone calls each it will be easier on everyone involved with planning.

I think that a place to meet is our biggest hurdle for the party at the moment. I think that there really is enough interest by enough people, including very new ones, and perhaps different ones that are just reading and not posting to the thread, that it will be safer for everyone to meet in a public place rather than exposing someone’s home, and family to a lot of unfamiliar people. If more than 20 or 30 people come it could be really uncomfortable in a private home.

On the other hand if there isn’t really enough interest by the group a large, I would have no problem making this an invitation only party and having it in a private home. We would then have a core group to rely on for planning then. And maybe we could then plan to have a public picnic meeting latter in the summer next year, if anyone is still interested.

Tut Tut it looks like snow. The ground has turned white while I was writing this little missive. I need to go check on the girls, to see what they think of this new development. That and it will be fun to see what the puppies, and Ellis “The Kitten”, think of snow too.

I am willing to help anyone that needs to get rid of Roos and or other spare, extra, or just very naughty flock members. I am here in Enumclaw, and can help with information on the livestock auctions that are help every Saturday. Feel free to PM me with any questions about it. I don't know everything about it, but I have learned a few things that seem to help.

This spring we will be taking care of meat birds also. If anyone is interested in watching the process or helping let us know too. I don't have any dates yet, but I do know which hatchery I am going to get the birds from. If anyone would like to go in on the order go ahead and PM me. I am willing to consider brooding all of the birds if that is something that someone maybe interested in. I am limited in how many birds I can brood, do to being in the city limits and being on a sub-division lot. And I am trying very hard to stay under the radar, and need to keep the really good neighbors happy.

I have also had a few driving jobs, that required me to find addresses. For most of the past 17 years I have been living just 4 miles north of Pierce County line too. A person could MapQuest of Google the address if there is some doubt.

Well as planned the free chicks are all gone again this weekend.
Congratulations to Darrell in Bonney Lake.
The newest chicken gewrew to get a fresh batch of chicks. 10

At this time there are no more FREE chicks.
I will post again next weekend or so when they come available.

Sorry to those who called and that I had not posted yet.
SORRY.
