Just so everyone knows what is up. The places we have checked thread is now moved to the Chickenstock Shows area. TerrieLacy thought it was a better fit since that thread is about meet-ups for chicken and other fowl folk.

All my best friends are pretty fowl folk.

And that one was expecially for you, too. Well really!

Awww... I smiled when I groaned. Does that make it better?

May have found a contact to take roosters off my hands, I'll let those of you looking to find homes for yours know as soon as I find out (and they take mine first, *evil laugh*)

I should know soon too if some of my pullets will be going to their new homes. I'll PM those of you who responded to let you know.

Working from home today, have a kiddo running a temp hovering around 100. Am I a bad parent for hoping she gets well enough to go to paranoid sitter's house tomorrow so I can go to work and watch my plane take off? Last time she got a fever and coughed once or twice, and the other had a runny nose, she called me and made me leave a conference because my kids had "swine flu"

A hug is a great thing. Many a person would love to get a big hug for Christmas. In fact I heard it was the most wish for gift this year.

I could leave you wondering, but I won't just this once. Don't want to drive you to TWI.

Apparently there are a few of the smilies that don't work right now. I tried 2 before I got to the hug. Actually, the hug was just what I needed. So you got to enjoy it too.

Well, I have been contacted by a code enforcement dude. Appears the code folks think my coop is violating the setback laws. I think my chickens should fall under the "household pets" exception. For us they are pets - we do not raise them for food or commercial purposes. And hey, each of them has lived in the house at some point. In fact, there are two in the bathroom right now! Somehow, I expect that code dude will not agree with me. My biggest concern is that I am not sure there is anywhere in my backyard I could put the coop that would not be violating the setback rules. Apparently the chickens can legally free range in the yard, but once they are associated with a building the setback rules kick in. UUGGGGG!!! Don't worry, though. I can be a persistent bi*** when needed. I will get this figured out somehow. I told my boyfriend if it is looking bad he will have to move into the coop with the chickens so we can claim it as a residence. He thinks I am kidding....

Okay, really, if all else fails I guess they can live in the garage.

What is really sad is that I am sure that this is due to a neighbor complaining about my roos. All they had to do was say the roos were driving them nuts and I would have worked it out. I have been keeping the coop as dark as I could and have just purchased a timer for the light to help with sleeping patterns. But, I would have tried insulating the coop and if that was not enough I would have brought them inside at night so no one needed to be bothered. And failing all else, I would have rehomed them. But now, as a result of me having to scour the Snohomish county code, I have discovered that noise from poultry is excluded from the noise ordinance where I live!! Which means I can have all the crowing roosters and laying hens my backyard can hold! Good to know since I now have neighbors I am not too happy with....insert evil laugh here!

So Weaveagarden, throw me in with the fowl people versus the governmental forces against chickens! BTW, I could not find the actual ordinance that was passed in Hoquiam. Do you have the actual language? How is the service animal angle coming?

That is intersesting. I haven't looked online since it was passed. I have it here somewhere. I will PM you when/if I am able to find my copy.

I want somebody to find me the words for a group with the acronym FOWL . Or if not that, something like FOWL PEEPS so we could work Poultry into it. My brain is trash today. Can't come up with anything except Friends Of Washington Loyal Poultry Exposing Extreme Political S**theads

. WE need to do TWO things (1) Determine how much money we will have to work with. (2) Location . South or North

Thanks all

Hi Washingtonians,

I've got my first small backyard flock of pet hens, had been researching a ton, and then life got busy and hadn't been on the forum. I'm just now getting back online

We're up in Sedro Woolley, but actually closer to Bellingham. My girls are NOT enjoying the weather

Poor things, it was their first experience with snow, and they are not happy, but they love the warm oatmeal.

Glad to be here,

Wife of one husband, Mom of 2 human girls, 5 dogs, 2 cats, 5 hens, 2 cockatiels, and 2 bunnies.
