I miss my Chicken Little. I was going to use her as a dependent on my tax return this year.

If anyone of you finds a 55 gallon or similar size plastic barrels, on craigslist. (DH needs 2 or 3 of them) I would love to know about it. Of course I would prefer them either cheap or free, if at all possible. (Don't we all) I really do appreciate the heads up on all the interesting craigslist items posted here.

I have 1 white plastic and one blue they still have both ends I also have a plastic 1/4 drum that has handles on the top.
I would be willing to trade for some egg cartons and maybe a pair of OEGB chicks.

I will have to let you know when we can come down and pick them up. Also if you and Diane would like to carpool part of the way to the potluck, I am sure we can work something. Like meeting up with you both, somewhere in the south sound.

This is amazing. It's like ask and ye shall receive. Thank you it will really help

I sure wish I didn't live in the nether regions of this state. I would love to meet somebody. I will be up in Issaquah this next week, but somehow, I think I will be up to my ears in christmas plans.

So, what does everyone get in these 50 gallon barrels. No wonder many of you TWI.
I never have any of those just lying around. I have some garbage cans, but they are all full of either dirt, garbage or water pretty much all of the time.

So, what do we do with the extra eggs? Hmmmmm.......

This week I think I will take some North when I go up there. And I will send some with Moody's 'dad' to share with his girlfriend and aunt. And some to the guy who helps with my chickens. I was going to share with my parents as soon as they ran out of store bought white eggs. But my mom tells me that all of the 3 chickens that she rescued from the friend gave her an egg today.... Her first green egg. So she probably won't be needing eggs much pretty soon.

I am going to have to search for that trick about boiling fresh eggs on BYC tonight. I've got a craving for deviled eggs now.

Ron: so sorry to hear about your hen. I have coyotes around here too and my crew free ranges so I know it's just a matter of time. I got one a month or so ago and had another one hanging around that the steers kept driving off, think it got hit by a car though since I saw one on the hwy and haven't seen it since then. They'll be back though, my darn roosters keep crowing the easy meal dinner bell.

Weaveagarden: the fresh egg thing is-- bring water to a boil. Put eggs in water (I keep mine at room temp. to minimize cracking.) Boil eggs for 14 minutes. Spoon eggs into sink or bowl filled with ice water. Peel warm or cold, works good either way. The ice is the trick to this and it works great. The day before I tried this I'd boiled a batch of 5-day old eggs and lost most of them along with the shells when I tried (that's tried, not actually did it) to peel them. I used the "recipe" I found on another byc thread on laid that day eggs and the shells came off like magic. My family thought I'd went crazy (ok, they might think that a lot) because I was so excited about being able to have boiled eggs without having to plan it a week ahead.

Greg: Awesome story, it's now been mailed out to most of my address book. Thank you SOOOO much for sharing!

Are they like rubber duckies? My sisters dog (her only child besides the other dog) loves rubber duckies to play with. She would love those PJ's if they are. And if so, where do you work.

yes they look like rubber duckies and I work at fred meyer in Port orchard

Weaver at least ya live in a town ! Where I am there is a sign post on the road that says Ethel on it and on the other side of the post it says Ethel.
Have ya ever thought of selling yer extra eggs. We live in the middle of nowhere and when we were getting 12-14 per day could barely keep up Now in the cold we are only getting 8-11 per day and I have people reserving eggs befor they are laid. I think that is kind of like counting yer eggs before they are hatched ain't it.

Chicken Thief -
Ya, I know what you mean about the sign thing. I have lived in a few places like that in my youth. Anybody ever heard of Lamona, or Downs in eastern WA. Lamona was a thriving little town of about 19 people near Odessa. We were 5, our closest neighbors 4, my babysitter's family 8 and my god-parents who ran the general store/post office made the balance. I am not sure if the couple who lived across the highway were actually in town or not. If so they made 21 until he died. The only reason I remember about them is because at about 6 years old, we visited and she told me she kept her husband in the closet. I found out later, that she meant his ashes.

I digress a little bit.

I really think you have the right idea..... No city council to mess with you!

Kittymomma - I haven't forgotten about your carrier. We are heading north in a few days. I plan to drop it by then. And thanks for the egg thing.... That will help. I guess I better start filling those ice trays. I hadn't needed them in so long, I took them out to make room for food.

OMG,
I've been working in Montana this week. Get back, log onto BYC and the chatty Washingtonians have about 28,000 more posts. Lol! So I just spent the last 4 hours skimming all the posts. Guess I'd better not leave town again.

Glad to be back, Guess I need to check out the other threads, about the party.

Welcome to the new people.

Sorry for your loss Ron.

Thanks I'm dissapointed that I lost a chicken. BUT it bothers me more what my girl went thru before she died, hope it was quick! I'm a softy for animals. She was a white leghorn, wich are great layers, but very skidish, they won't let you get too close to them. don't make good pets. so If I had to lose one, I guess it was best it was that one. but I still feel bad.
