Ron, have you ever tried the Tums that someone on here suggested. Or, are you feeding the shells back to your girls. I did that and it made an impact within 24 hours. I haven't tried the tums yet. Now I have oystershell, and my girls seem to like it. I also feed yogurt regularly. When I do, I microwave and then mash the shells up really fine and mix it in the yogurt. Then I add fruit, and grain to it. They scarf it down.

Funny thing you should mention giving their eggs shells back to eat. I read on here you need to BAKE them first. so a month ago I baked them for about 20 min on my BBQ They ate them up No problem. So yesterday I put a whole shoe box's full of shells on a cookie sheet and put them on the BBQ. when I came back 10 min later the WHOLE DARN BBQ WAS ON FIRE

. The egg shells were BLACKER than my Dog Kala ( who by the way is doing lots better)

All the other girls seem to be getting enough calcium. Always one in every crowd

Rustler: Glad your roo turned up. Poor thing. Maybe he'll have learned his lesson...

If you order from ideal, there are a couple breeds they carry that I'd like that the other hatcheries don't have (california white leghorns and barnevelders).

Not really sure where we ar going to order from. I have to see what flavour the other person wants. I am also hoping to get some suggestions from the "PRO's" on BYC.

Woody is very happy to be back in his little coop. When I go out there he tells me all about how scarey it was camping outside in the cold all by himself and about how wet he got. He said he didn't get much sleep as he had to keep watch for the owls. He was in a very dangerous place for raptors. He was on a flat tin roof out in the wide open. And since he is white with black he has a little trouble blending in.

Thanks for all yer

My backyard is still eerily quiet. The boys are working out who the new top dog is. So far my littlest boy, Ned, seems to be the front runner, followed by his brother Ted, and then the EE roo I got from Tailfeathers, Sasquatch.

Only one egg today. Still not sure who's laying what. I figure 1 for 3 isn't too bad. My brahma is getting very red now, and my leghorns are developing combs finally. The australorp seems to be lagging behind everyone now.

Everyone was mudddddy today. I don't think there's anything funnier looking than a polish covered in mud. Unless it's a silkie covered in mud. Surprisingly, the frizzles stayed clean.

You can file all of this under "useless information"

Is a California white leghorn the same as a White leghorn? I bought a calif. white at one store and two white leghorns at another. I thought they were different. Mine look alot a like but the combs on the leghorn is alot larger then that of the Calif.white in fact it falls over on the leghorn. My Calif white lays me a nice egg every day. so does my leghorn, she just FORGETS to put a shell around it

Nyrial You inspired me to go take a few pictures of Snowball. She is my White Silkie. Well most of the time she is pure white. But when it rains like it has she is less than her striking white self. In the picture she is looking better than has all day. Earlier the top of her head was really muddy and wet. I have to agree that both Polish and Silkies are really silly looking on wet days.

ChickenRustler I am so happy that Woody is back where he belongs.

Weaveagarden My DD and her DH were able to get the bird netting for you. Are you going to need it before the 28th?

PS I found a picture of Snowball when she wasn't so wet and muddy.

Wow he looks much different now. Mostly white. with some black.
I have a little surprise in store for Woody tomorrow. I an going to "rustle " a white silkie hen to keep him company until I figure out where he got out. We had to go town today and I went to the farm store and got a big bag of "J" metal and I am going to spend a lot of time checking for small holes and stitching them shut. I only have one pclae where theer is a slpice that dosent overlap and it is on the top of out run.
